Night Stalker| Chapter Four

Detective Thomas grimaced at the corpse in the body bag. It was a surprise when the message came in. At first they'd thought it was some sort of joke, but he'd given the instruction for his men to go down to the street mentioned in the message.

When they'd return, the information was relayed to him and he'd gone down to the morgue immediately.

They blood on the lady's cheek had long dried, and the alphabet on her cheek was now a red contrast to her white skin.

'Have you guys gotten any lead,' the detective asked Sir Elliot when the stepped out into the afternoon sun.

The younger man shook his head in negation.

'We tried tracing the number, but it was no use. Luckily, we found some bloody boot print on the sidewalk where the lady was found.'

'Where did it lead to?' The detective asked immediately, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

'It lead to a pool of water, after which there was nothing.' Sir Elliot concluded.

The sparkle in the detective's eyes faded into a mist of worry, as he silently thought about it.

'It therefore means that the murderer realized lately that he was leaving traces along the way.'

'Exactly, Sir.'

'I hope you took some photos of the prints, it may atleast be a useful tool in unravelling this dark mystery that has found its way into our peaceful town.' The detective said looking up at the younger man.

'Yes Sir. All aspects of the scene deemed useful has been captured.'

'That's alright. I'll meet with you later.' The detective said finally, as he turned towards the big black gates of the spacious compound.

..

Leo's heart kept hammering against his chest. He hadn't expected the lady to scream, but she'd done it after all.

He was standing at his window, his eyes scanning the environs, half expecting a police car to pull up infront of the building.

The more he stood waiting, his unease heightened.

That man.

Leo shuddered at the memory. It was still fresh in his brain, and it was as though it happened some few minutes ago.

He saw himself once more with his mind's eye, as vivid as his brain could reconstruct the scene.

He'd been walking along the sidewalk, his thoughts filled with Belle. Anger seared through his body, as her beautiful face fleeted before his eyes. She was beautiful as much as he could remember and this didn't decrease his detest for her.

As he walked on, he hadn't seen the lady coming until he'd stumbled into her. This sudden interruption of thought and his renewed hate for Belle had spurred his bloodlust. Before the lady could apologize, he'd held his dagger to her throat.

It was a matter of seconds before he recovered from the loud scream that sliced through the air. With a burning anger and hatred, he silenced her, letting her lifeless body fall to the ground.

His confused state of mind was soon rendered peaceful, as he squatted and scrolled the next alphabet, which held so many meaning to him, the alphabet "E".

Leo's solemn moment was broken by the sound of running feet. He stood up abruptly and looked straight ahead, around the corner, raced that figure; the man, who had made his heart beat to bursting.
