"O...O..oha."
Roci was slowly mouthing the words he was reading from a book while sitting on mother's lap by our grand fireplace. "It says From Ohara Island." I proudly stated. Mother softly laughed. "Doffy let Roci finish. Why won't you come up here and listen to him read."
After the scene from the Cathedral, mother informed father about what happened. Father quickly came home, and he brought with him many items and lots of books from Ohara to add in our library. In the past he would bring tons of books from various places and he would let mother read them to us.
Other Celestial Dragons would see this act as absurd and odd. Why would Celestials read books from down below? That is why father was called a heretic. His interest in humans was lunacy in the eyes of Celestials, but to mother, father was a fascinating man. I do not really like to engage myself on mortal matters, but I would tolerate because mother asked me too. He would then educate us with the books he brought. He taught us the myths and legends of this world, the devil fruits and how they grow and many knowledgeable wonders.
"Doffy, I have something for you. I know you'll love it." Father called for me in the other room. "Sorry mother maybe I can listen to Roci read some other time." I said to my mother and went to where my father was. It was a private room. There were artifacts and weird items from the human world. Shelves contained old dusty books that looked like it wasn't touched for centuries. Pictures of him posing in many places hung on the walls. The eye catcher was the mahogany desk stacked with brown paper just by the glass window that covered the floor up to the ceiling at the edge of the room.
Father was near the bookshelves and he handed me a very old book. The Adventures of Don Quixote. "That was the first book I ever laid hands on from the world below." He said. He then gestured for me to sit by the desk.
"The young man who gave it to me said it was very old, he even joked that it was maybe written before our forefathers even built Mariejois." From the looks of it he might just be right, its cover was very worn out and some pages of the book were torn and faded. It's a miracle this book is still readable and somehow survived centuries. "What's it all about father? It has our name on it, but it's spelled wrong-eh." I asked with disgust. I looked for the writer but I could only come up with a faded Mig Cer tes Sa dra on the worn out cover.
"It's a story of a noble man who sets out to become a knight, inspired from the books he has read and the stories he has heard about the world. His adventures had trials, but he stayed chivalrous." He told with gleam on his eyes. As he was telling the rest of the story, father was very emotional. This book seemed to have an impact on him. It looks like this ugly relic is father's inspiration. "I think I know a man who sounds like that." I said sarcastically. He laughed and scratched the back of his head.
"A man like him waged a battle against giants but were in fact just windmills." He added. Eh? What's that about? I asked father what happened at the end of the story and if Don Quixote defeated the giants. "Well, I have only read as far as that. The pages left were already torn and worn out." Father replied. He opened the book halfway and revealed missing chapters and blank pages at the end of the book. "I guess it's up to us to decide how his story ends." He winked and smiled thoughtfully. As I was carefully studying the torn pages, I imagined Don Quixote facing the windmills-er giants. He was about to fight them heroically. Suddenly the people of D came lurking from the shadows and took him away. I shrugged away from my thoughts.
My father quickly noticed. "What's troubling you little one." He gently asked as he closed the book. I sighed and gathered up the strength to talk about the D. I never liked talking about my problems. It makes me look weak. "At the cathedral they told us about the D." I lowered my head and stared at the ground. "They said they'll destroy our home and eat us. I don't want that to happen." I anxiously said. Father stroked his beard and raised an eyebrow before giving me a thoughtful look. "That's not true Doffy let me tell you something." He said as he held my chin up and knelt before me. "Back when I was stubborn and just like the other Celestials, I came across a noble young man on my travels. He was kind and he was daring. He changed my life." He paused for a second giving me time to hint at what this man was. I looked at him with wide eyes. "And you know what. Yes, He was a D."
EHHH?!
"Maybe when you meet one, your life will change." He winked. I playfully stuck my tongue out at him and gave him a thumbs down. Then a gentle knock on the door was heard. Father called for the person to enter. It was our slave, Cerise. She was tall, thin and looked clean. Unlike other Celestial Dragons, Father treats his slaves properly and keeps them well behaved. "Excuse me master." she said weakly. I gave a small intentional cough. "And of course the young master." she immediately bowed. Cerise then continued what she was going to tell. "Your cousin, Saint Cardenio is here for the meeting you requested." she addressed to father.
"What do you mean you want to live with the humans-eh?"
"You have gone mad -eh!"
I was playing with my flamingo toy when I heard banters and gasps from the other room. It must be father and uncle. I asked Roci to come with me and see what the big fuss was all about. The slaves by the door had an anxious look and told us to stay in our room. "Leave us!" I commanded. The slaves hurriedly went away. We sneaked just by the door to hear what was going on. In the middle of it all, Roci somehow stumbled where he stood. I didn't even know that was possible. "Shh. Quiet Roci, I can't hear them." I advised him. I leaned my ear on the wall and listened intently.
"It'll take months for you to prepare."
"It'll do. I'll use those months to prepare my wife and children for the move."
"You better use those months to think twice-eh. You will cause a mockery to our family name."
The door slammed open and it revealed a frustrated wrinkled man who was not as tall as father but the man sure was stouter than he is. "Cardenio wait." Father called from inside the room. Saint Cardenio stormed to the entrance and we followed suit. When he opened the door to the main entrance he looked back and remarked "I wasn't here. I didn't talk to you. You are no cousin of mine and I don't know you!" and he slammed the door shut and went on. We were left in silence. Mother rushed to the scene and checked if we were okay. I looked at father and he smiled weakly.
"It's time I tell you about my intentions this past few months." He said to mother.

Once again hello good readers! As you know, yes non canon scenes again. And yes I added an obvious corny twist. Guess who was the 'young man' St. Holming met.
From what I've seen on the show and the manga, Doffy is an educated book reader unlike other Celestials. On the show we see scenes from a flashback that he was the one who lectured a young Trafalgar Law about academics among the Donquixote family. Also the book Don Quixote written by Miguel De Cervantes was a huge influence to Doffy's name and it looks like St. Holming's life is somehow related to the main character's story. I intentionally didn't want them to know what happens in the end because hey we all know what happened next to St. Holming when he ignorantly left to live with the humans. It's pretty tragic.
And as always feel free to comment below on any critical points or on how you feel. Thank you and I hope you continue reading. :D
