This tale is unlike the ones you remember. In the way that, the fate of all the characters you grew up with have all co-aligned. And the stature of a miss Wendy Darling has increased significantly in importance...
Wendy has grown up to be a strong and beautiful 14 year old girl. She is much more independent than her former 12 year old counter part. And her apparent duty of representing all of the Disney princesses' souls can be quite a handful. Especially when it comes to more formal events.
"Now, Wendy. You must pick a proper suitor to accompany you to tonight's ball," Mrs. Darling said as she combed Wendy's loose and wavy light brown hair. Wendy sighed and looked into her reflection. "I know, mother... I just... Don't know who will be the one. I am the soul of all the tales in the land. Which means..." "Yes! Many young princes to choose from," Her mother finished proudly. With Wendy representing the souls of the princesses' tales, it meant in some way or another, the characters within those tales would in actuality be around her age. Meaning that even the princes would ultimately be around her age as well.
Wendy thought back to when her life was much simpler. It had been two long and winding years since she had last been to Neverland in her own original tale. And two long years since she had last seen the ever endearing Peter Pan. She forever wondered what became of him and his crew. For all she knew, he could've ended up with the notorious Tiger Lily. Her being the new chief of her tribe by now, Wendy wouldn't have been surprised if she took Peter to rule by her side. But in her heart she knew that he wouldn't have tied himself down to someone at this point in time just yet. He was too free spirited and childlike to even be thinking of such a thing. She only wished she could share that freedom with him.
Mrs. Darling took Wendy's hand kindly and lead her to the main hall. Although being a bit underdressed, still being in her casual home dress, she went to meet with her first three potential suitors. "Well, here we are," Mrs. Darling said as she lead Wendy to stand in front of her. They looked to the right of them and saw the circular, short but wide, stage-like podium beside them. It was glittering in a deep blue and had a shining gold color in the middle. "You see, once you pick the one who is rightfully yours, you two shall step onto the podium. It will sense your true love and caring for each other and activate it's magic, giving you you're rightful outfits for the ball with some magical properties." Mrs. Darling said. "Alright, the first one here is Prince Henry."
He took a few steps forward as he looked down with his hands behind his back modestly. He was a mere 15 years old and he was truly quite the gentleman. Having a strong connection for him through Cinderella's tale, Wendy became overjoyed at the sight of him. "Oh Henry!" She gasped as she began to jog toward him. She hopped into his arms as he quickly caught her and hoisted her up so she wouldn't fall. She gave him a quick kiss then hugged him tight.
"Now, Wendy! You still have your other suitors!" Mrs. Darling warned. "I'm sorry mother," she said with a blush. "There is also Prince Eric and of course, Prince Charming," Mrs. Darling said as she gestured to them. The two princes stepped up then and gave a polite nod. A young Snow White followed curiously behind from a distance. Wendy hopped off from Henry's grasp and straightened her dress. "Hello Eric," she said with a smile and a sweet wave. "Hm you know, Wendy. Maybe you should go ahead with Prince Charming," her mother said. "Just imagine, "Wendy Darling-Charming." "Oh but mother!" Wendy complained "They are practically the same!" She finished as she gestured toward Charming and Snow White who had made her way beside him. "I can't help but agree with Wendy's side, he should be my prince since he is in my tale. No matter what status she is in representation of the stories," Snow White said as she went to hold the prince's arm.
That was when they suddenly heard loud noises seemingly coming from the window just above the podium. They all directed their attention toward the noises with wide and expecting eyes. "Uh... Hey! Whoa!" They could hear faintly come from the other side. Suddenly the window burst open as someone came tumbling from it and landed flat on their back on to the podium with a thud. They sat up with their eyes closed tight as they rubbed the side of their head in pain. Wendy gave a small gasp as she put a hand delicately to her mouth. "P...Peter?" She asked in pure shock and wonder. He opened both of his eyes then as he continued to rub his head. He blinked a while to regain his thoughts as he then put his hand down to support himself. He furrowed his expression curiously and tilted his head. "Wendy?" He said finally.
Though Peter Pan never gets older, over the last couple of years he had developed in a way. Seemingly less lanky and more well built and toned then when Wendy had last seen him, he did look like he had slightly matured and "grown". Must have been from all the physical activity he gets from playing with the Lost Boys and constantly encountering Hook. But he still wore his same green tunic, hat, and pants as always. Peter almost could hardly recognize Wendy when he saw her. With her hair let down and loose, no longer in the tightly curled ponytail from her childhood, and with her new elegant way of dressing (no longer in her sleeping gown), she looked like a whole new and older girl in his eyes. The only indicators of it truly being her after all was the sound of her voice, and her unmistakable blue eyes.
"O-Oh! I'm sorry!" Peter said earnestly. Wendy made her way to him then. He spun as quickly as a top until he stood up right just as he did the first ever time he went into Wendy's room. He had a sort of guilty look on his face as if he truly felt bad. "Hey listen I'm sorry about all that..." He said as he offered his hand out to her, also like their first encounter. "... This was supposed to be your special day huh? And here I am tumbling in and ruining it" he continued as he took her hand and lifted her up to the podium with ease. Also remarkably like the first time. As he did so, Wendy couldn't help but smile knowingly. Unbeknownst to him, this could be it. The ultimate test to see... If he was the one to take her. Once she stepped onto the podium they held each other's arms kindly. He didn't look into her eyes and instead looked to the floor in embarrassment and guilt. "Look, Wendy. I'm sorry alright? I truly am I mean I know...-"
As he spoke, the magic from the podium glittered around them. Wendy looked around them as she tried to contain her excitement. The others watched in awe with their mouths agape."Peter, Peter!" Wendy said as she tried to grab his attention and stop his apologetic rambling. She placed a hand to his face and directed him to look at her. He looked at her with the same apologetic expression and tried to give a half-smile. "It's alright! Look!" She said as she looked down at the bright magic around them. They both looked on in wonder as a bright flash consumed them. She opened her eyes and was surprised to see her new glittering ball gown. It was a combination of both light and dark blue with a big blue bow at the right side of her waist. Peter's expression showed he was shocked and surprised as he looked down and saw his new glittering and elegant suit. It was of course, entirely green with the exception of his tie being red with lighter red feather patterns with a clever tie clip in the shape of a small pan flute. "U-uh, Wendy? What is all this??" He asked entirely confused. "This indicates..." She began as a light blush began to form on her face "...who was to be my suitor for the ball. The one who shared a true love and caring for me" she finished. He began to get red-faced at this point as well. "You... Really came back. That means... You really thought back about me, Peter?" She asked. "Uh-hum well... Y-yeah! Wendy. You were the first ever lost girl I'd ever had an adventure with. Of course I was going to try and find you," he said. "But eh... I don't know if all this... Is for me, you know?" He said. "I know Peter. And you won't have to stay long like this, I promise. But will you just do so for tonight?" She asked. "Uh... Alright" he said with a kind and wide smile. Wendy gave a grin when suddenly her mother began to speak.
"Well! Let's let the ball begin, then!" Mrs. Darling said. That seemed to be the indicator for all the guests to arrive as the ballroom quickly began to fill with all the Disney Princesses with their respective Princes. Both new and old. As Wendy and Peter continued to look at each other. His dark brown eyes sparkled just as her bright blue eyes did off the reflection of the glittery floor and clothes upon them. He still had his same unforgettable qualities such as is bright red hair and thick eyebrows to match. Just as she had the same bright brown hair and long eyelashes. Showing that no matter what their life has made them go through, they were still them in and out.
"So uh, Wendy? Will you show me how to do it?" He said innocently. "You know, that..." He said as he pointed carelessly and directly at the guests who were all ballroom dancing gracefully. She giggled at his obvious childlike manner. "Of course, Peter" she said with a smile as she lowered his hand and brought it to hold her arm again. They held each other's shoulders kindly as they gradually began to sway with the rhythm of the music.
