dacre's pov
i was pumped full of adrenaline from asking mona out. it had been about a half hour since it happened and i was still buzzing from it. i was just outside of the studio, my back pressed against my car as i waited, constantly looking down at my phone, impatiently waiting for the text that she was done with work.
after another half hour i felt my phone vibrate, sighing out of relief when it was finally her texting me that she was on her way out. i sent back a quick 'ok. i'm at my car' and stood there waiting for her.
when she walked out is was as if i was seeing her for the first time. i felt the tug in my chest that you always do when you see your crush walk into your eyeshot. and it feels fucking weird as a twenty-three year old man to say that i have a crush. i'm a grown man pining over another grown woman like we're in high school.
i bring myself back when she walks up to me, leaning against my car next to me, doing her best to copy the position i was in.
"is this how the cool kids are standing nowadays, montgomery?" she grinned up at me, crossing her arms over her chest like i subconsciously had done.
"i dunno. maybe not anymore now that you're doing it. guess the cool kids with have to find another way to stand, sutton." i teased, nudging her slightly with my elbow.
"ouch. i'm not gonna lie, that hurt my ego a bit." she giggled, moving out of the position to face me at my side. "so where are we gonna go for this... hangout?" she asked, resting her side against my car.
"i don't really know. maybe we could go to get whatever you want to eat. which brings me to a good first da-- hangout question. what do you like to eat?"
"i like soup. and pasta. but mostly soup right now. something about it screams winter even though it's not winter yet and it's also fifty-five degrees outside."
"right, well lucky you. i know this really great soup place off of sixth and spring. they have the best soup i've ever tasted in my life. and i've eaten quite a bit of it in the past twenty-three years." i stepped away from my car, watching as she followed suit. "did you drive here? do you want to drop your car off at home or something?" i watched as she shook her head, not being able to hide the smile that was slowly forming. "great! so we take my car and we go straight there. easy peasy."
i walked around to the passenger side of my car, opening the door for her, shutting it when she was inside. i basically ran around the back side of the car, not being able to contain my excitement anymore. i got in smoothly, keeping my cool now that i wasn't able to freely express how i was feeling, not wanting to scare her off.
we got to know each other a bit better during the ride, having already breaking the base layer of what we needed to know earlier in the day. she told me about how her and sandy moved out to the city after being friends for a few years, having always lived together since both becoming adults. i told her about my family and why i decided to get into acting.
i pulled up to the restaurant, both of us getting out and staying a healthy distance from each other even though it was obvious both of us wanted it to be more than the hangout we were making it out to be. i opened the door for her, getting seated almost as soon as we walked in.
she looked at me when we sat down, her hands in her lap. "so what do you like to get from here?" she asked, looking down at the menu that was given to her.
"well it depends. from the classics i like the french lentil. meat based would have to be chicken sausage creole. vegetable based is jade green curry. that one's really good. and i haven't had any of the other categories."
she shut her menu, looking up at me. "okay well, how about we do this. you order for me because i'm indecisive and i don't want to keep you here all night while i try and pick a soup."
i smiled at her, nodding softly. "i wouldn't mind being here all night with you, but that can be done. you can get the curry. i'm telling you it's to die for. so i might actually get that one too." i closed my menu, looking toward the waitress as she walked over. i ordered for the both of us, the waitress walking off to put our order in.
