I haven't really gotten a chance to enjoy my surroundings because my heart is so broken. I head back to the battle scene and sniff Echo's burnt body. I lick it softly. Echo is no longer in this body. She's gone, but I can still honor her. If she could talk right now she would tell me to feed. I don't need her to. I'm starving. I know there must be food around. It's likely but it's wise to take advantage of the food source closest to me before venturing out. Besides, I wouldn't want anything else eating my sister. I chomp down into her stomach and swallow. The charred meat is dry but tasty.
"Wow Echo. You still manage to rock out even in death. Show off," I say as I take another bite.
I'm enjoying my sister's body until I hear a shrill cry. At first I think it's Charlie or Delta, but it isn't.
I look out the opening of this building and nothing. Something is totally out there though and I feel like it's watching me. I scarf down as much of Echo's meat as I can before standing to my full height and high tailing it out of there.Night time
Asleep, I dream of running through the trees with my sisters.
"Blue! We should pounce on Owen!" said Charlie as we run alongside our alpha on his loud metal fast thing.
She was always the prankster. I remember when he had come into our paddock after that skinny human fell in. I can't believe I thought he was going to hurt my sisters. The only thing that kicked in at that time was protecting them. A lot of good that did now because they're all gone.
I wake up with a start. I hear something. Leaves rustle. I jump up and cock my head to the side.
I wait in suspense for something to show up. There is nothing. I'm so full I choose to lie back down, but before my body can hit the ground, Something quick and nimble lunges at me. I shriek and jump into the air quickly trying to get it off. Whatever it is, it's teeth sink deep into my neck. I flop around on the ground in attempt to get it off. I succeed. Looking down at it I can see that it's a strange looking creature; almost malformed. It looks like a smaller version of me but with a very small head, very long neck, very long legs, very long claws and sharp long teeth. It's skin is white.
I don't know how to explain this but it smells like two different animals. I have not seen many animals since I grew up in the paddock with my sisters, but we have learned how to identify organisms by their smell. Every organism has a certain smell. The only thing that had many smells in one body was The Monster.
I quickly strike to tear its head off but it's too quick and runs off into the forest.
That thing is half my size so it must have been very desperate to have attacked me.Morning
Seeing the sun rise gives me new vigor. I give one more thanks to my dead sister, Echo, for feeding me and helping me prolong my life.
I make a silent promise that I will explore this new world.
Feeling energized, I lift my tail up high and run at full speed towards the sun. I remember my three sisters and imagine running alongside of each of them. I promise I'll live.
