My eyes open slowly. I'm afraid to move. The pain in my chest is excruciating, so I lie back down. Before I can close my eyes again, a faint cry shudders through the breeze. My head pops up and I can't believe what I am seeing. Shaking my head, I try to focus. It's an Allosaurus.

I see Rexy some distance away feeding on one of the gallimimus. The thing closest to me is chewing on one too: the one I attacked.

I shift slightly and the Allo pops her head up in my direction. I stay still as I can. After a quick while, she loses interest and continues feeding. Can she see me?

Not if I don't move apparently. I get up quick as I can but I didn't count on my foot being in agony. I fall down immediately. This time the Allo gets irate. She stands to her full height and lunges at me, expecting me to back away, but I can't.  I spit and hiss at her, an action that catches her completely off guard. My will to live is strong and I get up on my injured leg to limp away as quickly as I can move.
I can hear something pursuing me and for some reason I know it's the Allosaurus. Why is she chasing me when she already has something to eat? But even as I ask this question I already know the answer. It's what I would also do. I'm injured and she knows that I am an easy kill. She may want to eat after she's finished.
I turn around to face her so I can get an idea of where the attack is coming from. But before she can get to me a flurry of something else jumps out. Imagine my surprise when I see another velociraptor!
It bravely and relentlessly attacks the Allosaurus' face. I stand there in awe and, to be honest, shock.

The Raptor jumps down from the Allosaurus and stares at it straight in the face. A little confused the Allosaurus backs away and decides that this is not worth the time nor the effort. She retreats and goes back to feeding on her kill. WAY TO GO RAPTOR!

The other Velociraptor turns to look at me and questions if I'm alright. My body language tells the Velociraptor how grateful I am. I follow him back into the forest.

Now that we're out of immediate danger I turn to my right to scrutinize the Velociraptor next to me. He's very handsome and much taller than I am. He's also more lean and streamlined. He looks a little bit like Charlie because he has stripes and he has some flecks of green on his flank. But that's where the resemblance ends.

On his tail, from the middle all the way to the tip, he has what looks to be hair, similar to what I see on the human's heads. He has a bright red throat patch that makes me crazy. His face is thin and much more narrow than mine. The majority of his body color is a mixture of dark brown and tan.

He's very interesting to look at I'll say.
We make an odd pair walking alongside each other. He leads me back to his hiding place where I discover many crushed eggshells. He reveals to me later but he's the only one left of his kind. Unfortunately what was left of his family died off because of some illness. It killed his entire bloodline except for him. Other animals came and fed on them. He had to push their bodies away from his territory or at least as far as he could so they wouldn't attract the other carnivores. I let him know that I lost my family as well. Where has he been all this time? How on Earth did he manage to escape from the human's detection? I'm just glad he's here now because he certainly saved my life.

The next few weeks were a breeze. I didn't realize how tired and weak I was until I rested and let the male do the hunting. He brought back many interesting things. Creatures that I've never seen before in my life, that have fuzzy stuff all over them, is what we ate most of the time. In time, he taught me how to hunt for them and to catch my own.

My leg was getting better and the rest certainly helped. It feels so good to have someone with me again. I feel the safest I've ever felt.

In his nest I can smell many generations of velociraptors that have lived here and in the general area. The smell that overpowers all of them, however, is that of my new friend.
