I sat in the middle of the couch, sandwiched between Lia Beckim and Kyle Fernkiv. Kyle sat on my right, Lia on my left, and to the left of Lia sat Evelyn. She was flirting with the guy I'd made out with a couple months ago at the edge of the couch. So, it was time to fight bitch with bitch.
"I can't believe someone did that to you!" Lia exclaimed, her face submerged in her plastic cup. Evelyn didn't care. She nodded, pouting her bottom trembling lip. It just looked so fake. I fought back the urge to scowl out of irritation and turned towards Kyle, but kept my gaze past him. I immediately got his attention, and his gaze lingered on my exposed legs.
He was friends with Evelyn's ex. He was my in into that whole circle. And when I made it into the circle, my plan would really start.
"Hey, Trian." He said, his voice low and semi-attractive. I turned my head towards him and blinked.
"Oh, hey!" I said, clinking our cups against each other. I forced an easy going smile on my face, and leaned towards him slightly, crossing my legs so my left leg rested over my right. "How have you been? I don't see you a lot at school."
"We have three classes together." He said, with turned lips and a sparkle in his eyes.
"Oh, really?" I asked, giggling a little hard. I was giving the illusion that I was drunk. In reality, I was far from it. "My bad."
"Mhm," he said, rolling his eyes playfully. "So, how's your sister? She's in college right?"
"Yeah." I forgot most guys at my school knew about my smoking hot sister. She's somehow managed to entrap guys even 5 years younger than her at school who'd never even met her.
"Kyle," a girl appeared in front of us. Her dyed purple hair was pulled up into a high bun, and she wore a white crop top and yellow shorts. "Let's dance." Her words slurred slightly, but Kyle didn't care. He was going to get that ass tonight, and they both knew it. He nodded at me and then rose taking the girl by the hand and dissapearing into the crowd of horny teenagers.
I glanced down the couch. Lia was still comforting Evelyn. I rolled my eyes and rose. I was at least one step closer to completing step 1. So, I got something out of coming to this party. I sighed and pushed my hair from my face when my heart clenched in my chest.
I turned and froze.
Jamie was bent over, wiping a tear from Evelyn's face. His eyes were filled with so much affection I wanted to scream at him: "Don't you know what she did to me!". I wanted to tell him that she was a terrible person, and didn't deserve him. I wanted to tell him that I did. I wanted so many things, but all I got was nothing.
All I got was the chance to be an extra.
That girl on the couch, sitting alone, watching her crush care about her best friend.
I was no one.
And to him she was everything.
I turned my head and let my hair fall in my face to mask my expression. I didn't want anyone to see me breaking.
