I tried to look like I didn't care as Jamie's hands snuck up the back of Evelyn's thin silk shirt. The typical song that was popular at the time boomer and shook each wall forcing them to dance to the beat. Personally, I thought they were doing better than some people.
Feeling frustrated, I pushed myself off the vibrating wall and headed to the porch to get some air. So far, this plan was getting me no where and she still had the upper hand.
My high waisted black shorts were tight and in that moment it annoyed the hell out of me. So much so, that I didn't notice the two guys walking towards me. My shoulders slammed into both of them one right after the other and I stood stunned for a moment before spinning around in a fit of rage. I wasn't even planning to yell at anyone just glare.
That was all I could do anyway.
As I glared for a second or two I started to recognize who the guys were.
I cursed internally.
"Oh, Kyle! Hey, Rowen!" I forced my body to relax and I neared them casually, sliding a hand into my shorts pocket. I was suddenly very thankful of the body con outfit I wore. Along with my shorts, my turtleneck tank top was also very close fitting and outlined my C cup chest very well. Rowen's hair was parted to the side and slicked back. He actually looked pretty sexy. I had to drag my eyes away from him.
"Doesn't he look good?" Kyle asked, nudging Rowen playfully. "He had some tutoring job for some politician's daughter so he decided to dress up. Too bad the daughter wasn't that cute. I saw her when I picked him up."
"I don't date people I tutor, Kyle. Her looks didn't matter."
"Right," he looked unconvinced , then he turned his attention back onto me. "Anyway, you look good, Trian."
I nodded and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear while raising my chin confidently. "I know."
"Maybe Rowen should tutor you sometime." I did my best to look embarrassed. I giggled and rolled my eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
"Actually, I already tutor her." We spoke at the same time. This time I didn't have to pretend to be embarrassed. I didn't want anyone to find out I was failing a bunch of classes. Especially, because I actually understood everything.
We exchanged glances and a momentary look of regret fell upon his features before they readjusted themselves to their normal look of emotionless.
"Oh, you do?!" Kyle bursted out laughing. "Well that makes everything make perfect sense! Don't you think?" He nudged Rowen whose face had turned a little red.
"What do you mean?" I asked, scratching the back of my neck. I was feeling a little uncomfortable. I thought I knew everything that was going on but this was unexpected and weird.
"Nothing." Rowen said, a smile on his face. It wasn't a suspicious smile but it was obvious he didn't want to tell me anything.
"Trian!" A girl's voice called out behind me. I felt my skin crawl but forced a smile onto my face. I moved so I could see past Kyle and Rowen. There they were.
Jamie and Evelyn walked over to me swiftly. Their hands were locked together and I did my best to ignore it.
There was a new feeling that rose in my mind and body every time I saw them.
"We're leaving now. I'm sleeping over at his place since he's parents aren't home. You can get home alright, right?" Her voice was sweet like cotton candy.
It made me sick.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." I forced a smile. She just nodded and then my eyes slid onto Jamie. He was staring right at her. His eyes fixated on the name of her neck. Then her hair. Then her lips.
"Good. Sorry we're not staying longer." Her face lacked any sort of empathy. In fact, she could have just not spoken at all.
"Rowen let's go." Kyle said suddenly, snapping me out of the trance I didn't know I was in.
"It's fine." He muttered back at him.
Evelyn didn't even bother to look at them. She simply moved her eyes towards them for half a second and then dragged Jamie towards the exit in the next half.
I exhaled.
I inhaled.
Something didn't feel right.
I shut my eyes and felt my brows furrow.
"You ok?" I knew they were talking to me but they felt so far away it almost didn't matter.
"Hey?" Further. "Hey?" Further. "Hey!"
My eyes snapped open and standing directly in front of me Rowen was peering down into my eyes. No doubt about it concern rested in his eyes.
"Are you ok?"I leaned away and smiled up at him.
"I'm fine."
