It's update day yet again! :D haha, i'm not leaving a long note today, but i just wanted to wish everyone a happy 4th of July (tee hee...American egoism) and console readers that the chapters will get longer...it just takes a bit of time, since before we weren't writing for a specific literary site. (So shorter chapters were more acceptable) But anyways, happy reading!

I pulled up my hood against the rain, surprised at how cold it was already. I jogged to catch up with Neils and tossed him a Pop Treat.
"Thanks" he nodded as he bit into it. We turned around the corner to find the bus already there, the kids walking on the bus.
"Crap!" I yelled, then Neils and I started running at the same time. The bus shuddered for a second, as if it were going to start moving, but then it stopped and reopened the doors. As we neared the bus, I slowed down, pin wheeling my arms so I wouldn't run into the side of it. Regaining control, I jumped out of Neils' way as he barreled into the bus and sat in the back seat. Laughing, I walked on the bus and joined him.
"Way to wake everybody up!" I gave him a high five and he laughed. The girl in front of us turned and stared at us, a gangly freshman.
"What're you looking at?" Neils asked, crossing his arms and propping a leg on the back of the seat. The girl's eyes went wide, and she spun back around and started whispering with the other girl next to her.
"You really need to work on your friend making skills, Neils, you're scaring everybody." I copied Mom's voice, touching on a subject often broached with the two of us.
"Don't you laugh either, Lenore," Neils mocked, in Dad's voice. "You have the same problem. You write people off as having the wrong intentions, and then try to find the easiest excuse to beat them up."
"Oh, come off it." I huffed and mirrored his pose. While I looked at his face, I noticed something peeking out from under Neils hair. Pushing his hair out of the way, a large brown paw print tattoo was revealed. "What. Did you. Do?!" I asked him, trailing a finger on his cheek. "Mom's gonna kill you!"
"I've already told you I was thinking about getting it done." Neils shrugged.
"Yeah, but you didn't say you were getting a tattoo so soon!" I looked at the trees passing by outside the dark window, a little annoyed that he didn't tell me right away. I glanced back at the tattoo a couple times then relented. "Where'd you get it done? It looks really good. Does it hurt much?"
"Nah, it doesn't hurt all that much. You know the tattoo parlor downtown?" I nodded. "That's where I got it." He nudged me playfully. "You might want to check it out, they had some cool styles I think you'd like."
"Oh really?" I smiled as the bus stopped and we walked out the bus. "You'll have to bring me with you next time!" As I shoved my hands in my pockets, a piece of paper fluttered to the ground. "What's this?" I unfolded the paper to see a note written by Mom.
"Have a fun time at school today, and be sure to behave!" the note said. I rolled my eyes. Of course Mom would expect me to get in a fight on the first day of school. I crumpled up the note and threw it in the nearest trash can as we walked in school, Neils trying to smother his laughing.
"Shut it." I growled, then walked to the room number written on my schedule.
