Alfonso and I had arrived at 7:30. Geechy Guy's was a decent sized club. I read about this place one time. About 5 years ago, it started and became a home to several comedians, jazz bands, musicians, and even some singers. The top floor where The Shogun's Lair, however, was where The Yakuza had planned their actions all over the city.
The cool August night was very calm in Little Asia. That calm night would soon become one loud firework show. Alfonso held Stella's hand as they walked and I followed. We walked in the club and saw people everywhere smoking, drinking, talking, laughing. All dressed pretty decent.
I looked at the stage and saw a group of men setting up instruments. Looked like a jazz band dressed up in nice suits. One of the guys looked up and I noticed it wasn't just another jazz band. They were The Union Jacks. I smirked.
This was there distraction for the crowd. Alfonso and Stella sat down at a booth and I walked over to the stage to Phil.
"This is your diversion?"
"We were a band before we were a hit crew."
"What were you called?"
"We'll get to that another time."
"You guys good?"
"We're bloody great!"
"Alright, but where does Stella come in with all this?"
"Why don't you ask her?"He nodded to the direction behind me and I saw Stella reach her hand up to Brad and Phil who helped her up on the stage.
"I'm singing kid."
"You can sing?"
"Damn right. Go back to Al. You guys are about to get the party goin."I went back to the booth and sat across from Alfonso, who was drinking a martini.
"We gonna fuck shit up?"
He put his glass down and swallowed.
"You know it. Gonna show these Japanese fucks who's boss."
"Sounds great."
"Stella is gonna give me a signal. When she does, we get going. Make our way up to his office."
"But the guards. Won't they tr-"
"One step ahead of ya. Stella's friend is gonna distract the guard by the stairs."
"Alright. Sounds good."
"Show's about to begin."Stella tapped the mic for everyone to get quiet and they did. The Union Jacks had their instruments close; A member of the club on drums, Brad on saxophone, Larry on piano, Phil and Nigel on trombone, and the 2 I didn't get to meet, who was the ginger and the brunette, was on bass and trumpet. Stella talked into the mic.
"Hello everyone. Good evening. We are Stella And The Jacks and we're gonna play some good 'ol jazz for ya. How's that sound?"
The crowd replied with a nice applause and cheer. She then signaled to the member of the club to start a beat and so it did. Soon the bass followed and the band started playing a familiar song. As it played, Stella's beautiful voice filled the whole room. She gave Alfonso a wink and Alfonso smiled and winked back.
I thought that was the signal, so I stood up a little only to see him sign to me to sit. After that song, the audience applauded and whistled. They started another song a few seconds later. I didn't catch the signal, but Alfonso tapped me in the middle of the second song and said "come on" very quietly.
