LET'S have a conversation about weapons. What is and what isn't considered a good weapon for the apocalypse? Well if we're honest you won't find a katana lying around, a weapon can be anything your oc can get there hands on. So let's find out some other weapons your chatacter can have.

FIRSTLY, sadly we can't all be as awesome as Daryl Dixon and Michonne. So try something else than a (cross)bow. I have read so many stories where the oc is like this pro at wielding a (cross)bow and honestly it gets old. Now I can't forbid you from doing so, it's just my personal opinion. But you could try to use something else.

SECONDLY, now let's get into the description of your chosen weapon. We can give them a gun, but that doesn't give the reader much context. What type of gun is it? Is it maybe a Smith and Wesson? Or a Glock 17, a Beretta 92SB? How does it feel to shoot it? Does it hurt, is it heavy. Loud maybe? Not only does your character need a description but your weapon too.

THIRDLY, experience. You oc won't go into the apocalypse gun's blazing. Unless they have past experience like a militairy background for example. Your oc won't be making headshots all the time. They need to learn how to use their weapon. Maybe if your story starts around season 3/4 they can be good, but no one is perfect. We all miss once in a while.
