Chapter one

It was a warm, summer day. The heat of the sun was flowing down on de earth, and this caused the people t ogo inside, where the airconditioner blows cool air into their houses. The birds weren't singing, because it was so warm. Even the insects were quiet. and in this burning sun, Marc lied down in the backyard reading a book. He enjoyed the silence around him, the fact that not a single person was bothering him. And he was waiting for the night to come. He had to get it back, no matter what.

The day before this warm summer day, Marc was hanging with his two best friends, Lance and Haven. Lance was Marc's earliest childhood friend. Lance was a pretty tall, muscular guy, with blue eyes and blonde surfer hair. Fact is, he was a surfer. He often challenged Marc to do this as well, even though Marc wasn't really a good sporter. But when he went with Lance, they had alot of fun, and, as they said, fun is what it's all about. They met one day, when the neighbourhood was holding a party. They were playing soccer, and at one point Marc saw him playing on his handheld. Curious, and the gamer he was himself, he walked up to him, and checked what game he was playing. A deeb bond between them formed that day. Haven was a friend they met at high school. He was about as tall as Marc, and he had black, spiky hair. His eyes were almost perfectly white, due to a rare heritable disorder, with no other effects. Haven was a quiet boy, very unlike Mark and Lance. The way they became friends was quite remarkable. Haven was one of those people that don't really stand out in anything, but aren't bad at anything either. But for some reason, at one point, when a boy was being bullied and his books were almost being thrown in the toilet, Haven stood up and kicked one of the bullies in his precious parts. Of course, the other bullies responded to this, but Marc and Lance walked up tho them and stood next to Haven. the sight to fight fair, three versus three, scared them off. But they wanted revenge, someday.

Marc was playing around with the little cube his sister gave him, when they saw the three bullies and two more guys walking towards them. "Oh no, look who are over there, it's those guys again." said Marc. "Let them be, we don't want trouble now." said Haven. "Yeah, it's not like we have a choice, do we? It's too late to run now." said Lance. Before they could say anything more, the other group stood before them. "So, you are really a piece of shit, are you, Marc?" the leader, Ed, said mockingly. They were looking for a fight. "No, not really." Marc replied with a slight grin on his face. Ed was a firm guy, about as tall as Marc, but more solid than him. "O is that so?" He was making himself more angrier with the second, and if he would continue at htis rate, thing were about to get bad. Suddenly, Ed saw the little cube in Marcs hand. With a malicious grin he took it with a punch in the stomach, and when Marc dropped it, he took it, and you could see him think what he would do with. When Marc could breathe again, he said softly, but with supressed rage "Give it back. Now." Ed, of course realising that this was precious to Marc, had no intentions of doing this. With a still growing grin on his face he said in a supersweet voice: "O, you want this back? Well that's too bad, since that is not going to happen." and with that, he threw it over the fence of the house of Mr. Fisher.

Mr Fisher was a person from the neighbourhood eveyone knew, but no one knew what his job was, if he had one, or what he did inside his house. There were people claiming they heard howls form the house and onther spine-chilling noises. Someone claimed he saw a blue flash and then he hear a sreeching noice which almost causes him to pass out, becasue of the frequency (or so he claimed). All and all, this was enough to scare most of the neighbours, including Marc and Lance. And he was screaming at people when they looked at his house for too long. All and all, he wasn't the kind of person to just walk up to and have a nice conversation with.

They all watched it flying over the fence, Marc in terror, Ed with a devilish look on his face. Marc had to hold everything inside as he watched one of his most precious items dissappear.  He looked at Ed and said "I'll pay you back one day. That isn't a threat, it's a promise." Ed laughed and walked away.

Marc also had a sister called Emily. She was like him in many ways, both appearance and ways of living. They had both dark blonde hair, blue eyes and they were also about the same height, even though Emily was a year younger. They both liked roughly the same thing, with some exceptions of course. They were always there for each other since their parents almost never were home, because of their job. But they'd gotten used to it, and they enjoyed their freedom.

While Marc was thinking about this fateful day, the sun was setting. he decided to cook for his sister, and if they came home, his parents. Another day without them, but he didn't really mind. Or that is wat he kept on telling himself. He went inside and started preparations. After dinner he and his sister were sitting down on the couch. She looked at him and whispered: "You know I'm going to a special school next schoolyear? So this vacation will be the last time we'll see each other in a long time." They watched some television, and they talked about how the new school probably would be, and what kind of persons there would be. Marc tried to comfort her, saying that she probably would make friends really quick, since she was a really nice person. "If something ever happens, just send me a message, in any way." Marc assured her. "I'll see what I can do if you need me." "Thanks." At 11 o'clock, she went to bed, and Marc sat alone in the room. He waited for another half our and got up. It was time. He went and put on his dark clothes, and walked out of the house.

When he got to mister Fisher's house, he had to find a way in. He decided to just climb over the wooden fence, and check the backyard for his cube. First, he checked the front to see if there were any lights on, and if he could see anyone in the area who might stop him from getting it ever back. He casually walked in front of the house, and when he didn't see anything at all, his decision was made. he walked to the back of the house and, with ease, climbed over the fence. He was in.
