The lake now out of sight, Maya sprinted up in front of him in defense. Her eyes looked around at anything that moved and her ears turned towards any sound.

Kei stayed in the back, watching as her hips swayed as her tail moved. He gulped yet again thinking back at the things he saw at the lake.

The way the water ran down her back, back down her legs. The shirt she wore reaching her mid back. He shook his head releasing his mind of these thoughts, knowing that it will or can be a forbidden love.

Suddenly Maya stopped, being trapped in his thoughts, Kei ran into her.

She jolted at the action and turned towards him. He stared at her with furrowed eyebrows and a scowl on his lips.

"What happened? Why are we stopping?" Her head shook to show nothing was wrong. He nodded. "Good. We're almost at the village," he drifted off as she nodded, letting him take the lead this time.

After passing a couple rabbits, causing Maya to stop and stare for a couple seconds before Kei dragged her away. They made it to the village.

They stared in as people walked in and out of house, through the roads towards their next destination, the kids running by and playing with makeshift toys.

Maya's tail wagged at the sight of the kids. Their laughs filling her ears and she started to step out from behind the trees.

Kei grabbed her shoulders and pulled her back.
"Oh no, you have to stay on the outskirts. If the hunters see you, they won't hesitate to try and kill you." He rose his hands towards the men walking by with guns around their shoulders. She furrowed her eyebrows with a growl. "I will be right back. Won't take no longer 'til-" he paused and looked up at the sun, Maya followed his gaze. "'Til the sun passes that Dark Oak tree." He pointed towards the dark oak tree in the distance.

Maya flattened her ears as she stared up with her eyes squinted.
"Okay-"

"Good. Stay here, if anyone spots you just hide until they give up looking." Maya nodded as Kei gave a nod back.

He leant forward, setting his forehead on Maya's, closing his eyes he let out a sigh through his nose as Maya furrowed her eyebrows once again and closing her eyes, his hand held the back of her head, steadying him and Maya.

He pulled away, she looked up at him with parted lips.
"I'll be right here." She whispered as he gave a small smirk.

He nodded once before walking off. Her ears flinched watching him walk into the village. He nodded at the people passing as they nodded back.

Her nails gripped into the tree as kids ran into the forest. She crouched down behind the tree as they ran deeper into the woods.

She stared at them, taking a sniff of their aroma. Males. She watched them as they laughed throwing rocks at passing squirrels and chipmunks. She flattened her ears as they grew closer.

Doing her best, she hid her ears with her hair and tucker her tail into her shorts, but it wasn't working out so much. Her mind went blank as their eyes met her's, completely forgetting was Kei had told her.

They spotted and started laughing as they picked up rocks and started throwing them her way. With no fear they approached her as she turned to sprint away. Crouching down to run, she was jolted back by her tail getting gripped.

She yelped and turned around scratching the boy who grabbed her on the shoulder. He cried out as the other boys stared at her. Reaching into their pockets of their coats, they pulled out knifes and shanks. Her ears stood on end as she stood still. A growl growing in the back of her throat. This wasn't the time to be scared.
