Darkpaw lifted her head as she appeared in a dark, misty world. The musty smell of rotting wood and wet, slimy moss made her gag as she walked through the long dark green grass. She lifted her muzzle as she smelled the scent of approaching cats coming her way.
"What do you think you're doing this far out in the forest, little one?" Hissed a raspy, menacing voice of a shecat. An orange and white cat stalked through the tall grass. Her long hooked claws dug up a but of the ground each time she took a pawstep. Her amber eyes burned with hatred as she stared at Darkpaw.
"I... I.." Darkpaw stammered.
"Oh, dear you look cold. Maybe a but of fighting will warm you up a bit, hm?" Spat the shecat as she lounged at Darkpaw.
"Urgh get off me!" Screeched Darkpaw as she clawed at the cat's shoulders. The shecat bit Darkpaw's scruff, forcing her to go limp. Darkpaw fell down as the cat forced her to the ground, setting her left blood soaked paw on her throat, pinning her to the ground.
"Now, dear there's no need to struggle." She sneered at Darkpaw.
"Let me go!" Yowled Darkpaw.
The shecat looked at Darkpaw for a while, then leaned her muzzle into her face. Her reeking breath made Darkpaw feel ill. "Oh, I'm not letting go till I settle a few scores." She hissed, showing her teeth.
"That's enough Mapleshade!" Yowled a low voice.
Darkpaw turned her head to see Tigerstar, Brokenstar, Hawfrost, and Thistleclaw surrounding the two.
"Darkpaw! It's ok you'll be-" hawkfrost was cut off by a rough hiss and a hard cuff over the ear from Tigerstar.
"Shut up! Don't show sympathy for any cat! How many times must I tell you, you mousebrained fool!"
My, he sounds just like Rocky.. Darkpaw thought in her head, rolling her eyes.
Hawkfrost dipped his head and stared at the ground in shame. Tigerstar stared at Darkpaw and flicked his tail. "Why is she here?" He hissed.
"Why did you bring me back here?" Darkpaw retorted, spatting at her father. Thistleclaw stepped forward. You must be going now Darkpaw. We'll be expecting to see you tonight. He growled as they walked off, leaving her alone in the dark.
"DARKPAW!" Yowled a voice. Darkpaw's head shot up as she looked around in the bright light of dawn, eyes still blurry from dreariness. She looked up to see Jay standing over her. "Oh, good morning Jay. What do you want?" She meowed.
Jay looked at her a bit. "You were whimpering and whining in your sleep. I wanted to know if you were ok." He murmured.
"Yeah, I'm fine." She purred.
Jay stared at her and dipped his head. "Good. I was worried." He said in a whisper.
Darkpaw blinked at him. "Thanks.
Jay rubbed her head with a paw. "You're ok for a forest cat ya' know?" He meowed, sticking his tongue out at her.
Darkpaw rolled her eyes and flicked her tail. "C'mon, lets go get something to eat. I'm starving!"
Jay follower Darkpaw down the box staircase to the main alley. Tess sat in her nest, eyes staring thoughtfully as she looked at Jay as he passed by. Darkpaw could tell she was still questioning him, but didn't bother saying anything to him, knowing it would make Darkpaw upset.
"Good morning, you two" she meowed, blinking her round blue eyes, purring."
"Morning Tess." Said Jay.
Tess stopped purring immediately and got up, walking to the back of the alley.
"Nice work, smarts. You ruined her morning." Sneered Darkpaw.
Jay twitched his tail in annoyance. "That old cat has got to learn to except the fact I'm staying here and not going anywhere else. And if she don't like it, so be it. She'll just have to live with it." He said, spitting on the ground beside Tess's bed in disgust.
Darkpaw rolled her eyes. "Just give her time, Jay..." She mumbled.
"Well, I don't got no patience."
"Then go find some."
"You can't find patience. You have to learn the meaning of patience to understand it.
"Exactly.."
Darkpaw had Jay stumped. He just glared at her playfully. "I see what you're getting at now. Aren't I stupid?" He said, laughing."
Darkpaw chuckled as she picked a piece of prey off the pile of food.
After she finished her prey, Darkpaw sat up and shook out her fur. Jay was beside her, smoothing out a few strands of fur sticking out from his dark brown chest.
"What do you wanna do now?" She asked him.
"What do you think, gorgeous?" He smirked.
Darkpaw smiled and ran towards the entrance of the alleyway, Jay coming up behind and pouncing on her, the two tumbled out onto the sidewalk. Jay pinned her to the ground and lightly batted at her torn ear.
"C'mon. Let's go have some fun..," He said menacingly.
The two ran around, annoying twolegs, tormenting kittypets and running from monsters. But there was one last thing Jay had planned for the two.
"Alright. We've done almost everything imaginable under the sun. I've gotta plan, but you ain't gonna like it."
Darkpaw nodded to Jay. "I'm listening. What have you got up your sleeve?" She hissed playfully.
Jay purred. "Follow me."
Darkpaw and Jay walked down the sidewalk for a while till they came across a large iron fence. Darkpaw looked up at the tall, metal bars. Behind it, she saw a large stone twoleg nest. "Alright. So, what now?" She whispered.
"Oh, I'll show ya' what. He said as he opened the latch of the twoleg gate with his teeth. The iron fence gate creaked as it opened wide enough for the two to fit.
"Alright. Let the fun begin." Jay growled with a mischievous smile. The two walked around ti the back of the nest and spotted a stake in the ground, a chain connected. Jay crept over and unhooked the stake from the ground and ran back over to Darkpaw. "Okay. 1... 2... 3...!" He said before yowling at the top if his lungs.
A loud growl came from inside a small structure and a large figure appeared.
The creatures black short fur was spiked up in rage, it's collar, ragged and covered in spikes, it's jaw's gaping and dripping saliva, showing a row of sharp, razor-like teeth. It's huge paw's made the ground thunder below her.
Before Darkpaw's eyes was the largest dog she'd ever seen.
The dog howled and stomped it's paws in excitement, it's yellow gaze held on Darkpaw. Darkpaw looked over at Jay in panic. "What now?!" She yowled in fright.
Jay smiled, eyes full of fear and joy. "You need to RUN!" He yowled as the dog came sprinting forward.
