There was a knock on the door. I stand up and turned to walk in the direction of the door but dad stopped me. "I'll get it" he said walking in the direction of the door. He opened the door and spoke to someone that I didn't know. "Come in." Dad says. A lady that looks like she's as old as my mom walks in.
Dad motions her to the kitchen. "You may sit." Dad says. She sits and puts the box that she had in her hands on the counter. "I'm sure you asking who I am. I'm Mrs White, your neighbor. It is tradition, in this community, to welcome new neighbors." She says. I smile at her. "I'm Raven Brown." I say as we shake hands. Mom and dad introduce themselves, they also shake hands.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?!" Mom asks. She nods. "Black with no sugar." She says. I'm shocked but I cover that with a smile. I stand up and make the coffee the way it was requested. Mom likes her coffee with milk and two sugars. Dad left the kitchen and went to watch television with the girls. "I brought home made cookies for you." She informed my mom. I make a cup for myself as well.
"That's nice, they will go well with the coffee." Mom responds. I put the cups on a tray and walk over to the two ladies. "Here you go, mam." I say as I put her cup in front of her. She shakes her head. "Thanks for the coffee. But please call Jenn." She says smiling. I nod and return the smile. I give mom her cup and I sit down next to Jenn. "So Jenn, do you have kids?" Mom asks. She nods. "Yes, a daughter." She responds.
"Okay, how old is she?" Mom asks. "She is 16 years old." Jenn responds. Mom nod. Jenn turns her attention to me "So Raven, how do you like the neighborhood?" She asks. "It's nice and quiet." I respond honestly. I love quiet place, it's nice and peaceful for when I'm studying.

"Hope you guys enjoy it here." Jenn says as she is as about to leave. "We will." Mom responds. And with that said Jenn exits the house and leaves. Mom closed the door. "Raven, you've got a week before school starts. We need to get you enrolled into a school." Mom says with concern in her voice. I nod. "When will we go?" I ask.
"I'll ask Jenn to suggest some school and we'll go and check them out and choose one the we 'both' like." She puts and emphasis on the word both. I smile and nod. "Okay mom." I respond as I put the cookies neatly on the counter and the cups in the sink.
She exits the house and goes to Jenn's house. I head upstairs with my phone in my hands. When I reach the top stair I hear Kay and Mel talking. I walk in their room and all of the sudden it's quiet. "What were you two talking about?!" I ask as I close the door. They look at each other and then nod. Kay pats the bed for me to sit. I sit besides her and the room is filled with silence before Mel speaks.
"Now that we are in a new area, does that mean we'll go to a new school?" She asks. I nod. "Yes, I am also going to a new school." I respond. They look at each other. "What if the children in that school are not nice?" Kay asks. "Then you'll tell me, mommy, daddy or your teacher. Okay?"
They nod. "Now get some sleep." I kiss their cheeks and leave their room. Mom enters the house as I was heading to my room. "Good night sweety." She says as she reaches the top stair. "What did she say?" I ask. She smiles "We'll talk tomorrow. Okay?" I nod. "Good night mom." I kiss her cheek and she kisses my forehead.
"Get some rest, tomorrow is a busy day." She informs as she walks in the direction of her room. "Will do." I respond.

I look at my phone and there is a missed call from Jay. I wonder, why did he call me? I decide to call him back. The phone rings and rings. On the fourth ring he picks up. I was about to hang up.
Me: Hey Jay, what's up?
Jay: Hey Rav. Nothing is up, I just wanted to check up on you.
Me: I'm good Jay and yourself?
