Bucky found himself rushing around his apartment, frantically trying to get ready before Steve showed up, stressing out because he wanted to impress him. If Natasha was telling him the truth about Steve's feelings, tonight was going to be his best chance at testing the "stucky waters".
Bucky dug through all of his drawers and swept through all of the clothes he had in his wardrobe and deemed everything too shitty to wear to what could be his first official date with Steve. His jackets were too old and ratty, his jeans were too ripped, his shirts were too small; everything was wrong. A sudden idea popped into Bucky's head and he pondered it for a moment. He decided to act upon his thoughts and he dug through his pyjama drawer, pulling out a pair of pyjama pants with Steve's signature shield design littered all of them. He doesn't even remember when or why he got the pants, but he is sure to make Steve blush; which is Bucky's whole motive.
---
Steve grabbed his motorcycle helmet from his kitchen counter and walked briskly out the door, his leather jacket hung limply from his arm. He used his free arm to grab his phone out of the back pocket of his jeans and sent a text to Bucky.
You better be getting ready or I will just go back home and eat all the snacks myself 😜
Steve quickly slid the phone back into his pocket and walked briskly towards his bike at the end of the garage. He straddled the bike with ease, turned it on and revved the engine. How he'd missed riding this for fun. The last dozen times he had rode it, it was for a mission or something of that nature.
Quickly pulling his jacket on, he breathed in the familiar fuel smell and clicked the garage buzzer to open the garage. He sped quickly out of the opening, clicking the door shut as he sped down the street. Steve quickly glanced back to make sure it was closed, doubling his speed when he saw it shut.
After a few minutes, Steve pulls up to Bucky's apartment complex, looking up at the towering building. He smiled to himself and walked through the entrance of the building with a little spring in his step from excitement.
Although Bucky was his best friend and had been since they were very young, knowing that Bucky may have had feelings for him made him feel giddy and smitten for the Winter Soldier. Like a sign from some higher power, Bucky finally texted back.
Bucka-boo👻:
don't worry, i'm ready for ya fam 😏😏Steve smiled shyly at his phone, embarrassed at his school-girl fangirling that was happening in his head at the time. Steve took a deep breath and pressed the button that connected him directly to Bucky's room.
Bucky's deep voice suddenly came through the small speaker that was eye level with Steve. "Yesssssssssss?" Steve smirked minimally and bit his lip. He wanted to play a joke on Bucky over the intercom except he knew Bucky would immediately see through it.
Stupid best friend connection.
"Herro, I bring pizza for youuuuu" Steve called back, trying to put on his worst accent imaginable. The door to the apartment staircase unlocked almost instantaneously and Steve laughed out loud.
——
Bucky was jumping on the spot and shaking his hands, trying to prepare himself but nothing could prepare him for today; not really. Of course he knew his feelings for Steve were true but he still had doubt in the back of his mind that Natasha was lying and was playing a prank on him.
He shook his head trying to shake away the doubts in his head, whilst walking towards his dining table to make sure he had everything packed in his backpack.
The knock at the door almost startled Bucky but he collected himself and rushed over to the door excitedly, ready for Steve to get very embarrassed by Bucky's chosen attire.
Bucky eagerly opened the door with a big grin on his face. Steve turned to face his friend with an equally as excited grin, which soon turned to a shocked face when his eyes fell to Bucky's pants. Steve was taken aback by Bucky's fashion choice and he turned around back into the hallway and rested his head on the opposing wall. Bucky was laughing so hard he couldn't even see Steve, who had doubled over onto the ground outside the apartment, curled up laughing. They both composed themselves after a good minute or two, still chuckling every now and again like the immature boys they were.
"Well..." Steve started, "That's certainly a bold fashion statement." He felt extremely embarrassed; partly because the one person he has romantic feelings for was wearing his merchandise but also because he thought he bought every single one of those pyjamas and destroyed them.
"Yeah well, what's the point of having Captain America as a best friend if you can't show it off every now and again?" Bucky exclaimed as he walked over to his backpack to put it onto his back. Steve laughed at Bucky's comment and actioned towards the door, motioning him to go in front of him out the door. "Ladies first."
Bucky picked up his backpack and curtsied as he passed Steve and went out the door. This earned him a slap on the back of the head from the blonde, who pulled the door shut behind them as they got out the door. Both men had a slight spring in their step without the other realising as they made their way back down to Steve's motorcycle.
