"Can't you see that Adrian is having difficulty dealing with the situation you put him in?" Lissa accused. I had to take a step back, because silly me thought that just once she would be on my side.
I laughed and shook me head. "This is ridiculous. Just because I love Dimitri doesn't-"
"Say it a little louder, would you?" She said cutting me off with hand around my mouth. I licked her hand and she recoiled with a look of disgust that made me laugh. She saw me lighten up and let out a quiet laugh as well.
"I'm supposed to be queen. I have to act mature, Rose. You cannot be seen licking my hand," she giggled. I covered my face and composed myself. I was going to tell Adrian how I felt. Give him something to think about. Maybe he'll just drink it off. I was counting on it.
I composed myself. "I'll say something. It won't be what Adrian wants to hear, but it has to be said." Lissa simply nodded.
Lissa and I walked back into the room, facing the problem that I caused. Dimitri was still glaring at Adrian but his eyes lit up when he saw me. That made me smile a little bit, but I suppressed the urge to let it show for Adrian's sake. Dimitri straightened up, as if I were planning to scold him.
"You both need to act maturely about this. You're both grown men, for God's sake!" My voice filled the silence in the room.
Adrian stifled a laugh. "You're one to talk, little dhampir." Adrian was really starting to get on my nerves. He starts a stupid fight with Dimitri and now he accuses me of being immature.
"Well I'm sure Dimitri doesn't feel that way," I responded smugly. I'll just hit him where it hurts. Might as well throw Dimitri in his face because...well I can. Adrian looked at my lover expectantly. I noticed what he was doing and decided to join in. I actually wanted to hear what Dimitri had to say.
Dimitri looked uncomfortable. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. It was startling. He was never at a loss for words. And I mean never. I thought Dimitri was on my side. Wasn't he supposed to support me?
"This is outrageous! Does no one in this room think I'm mature?" I asked with a hint of pain. I intended for my voice to come out powerfully and it did, cup amusing everyone in the room to flinch except one.
Christian laughed. "Well Rose, you did tell me to stay away from Lissa all because I was 'creepy.'" My mouth fell wide open in shock. Why would he bring that up? Adrian let out a laugh.
"You were!" I protested. All I got was looks of pure crazieness. "You had a bad repuataion, lurked in the shadows, and played with fire. Excuse me for being a little overprotective of Lissa." At that everyone started laughing. I covered my face with my hands and allowed myself to laugh.
Christan spoke to me over the laughter. "I don't lurk." I rolled my eyes at him.
"Now," Lissa said, "why can't we all get along like this all the time?"
