Destiny wakes up, her vision blurry, on her mattress in the organization's base. She struggles to sit up, a dull pain in her gut, forcing her back down.
"Easy, now," a voice somberly called out. Her vision recovering, she noticed it was Scarlet.
"Scar. . ." Destiny starts, her throat dry.
"Shhh," she says placing a finger over Destiny lips, "you're hurt badly."
"Well what happened?"
"Wolf attack. You snuck out."
Inspecting herself, she replies, "I don't see a bite."
Responding almost too quickly, Scarlet says,"Your adrenaline levels were high. You blacked out after the fight. Good thing I got you when I did. The rest of the pack looked pretty starving."
"Please, I don't look that appetizing." Scarlet raises a brow at her. "Oh, shut up, Scar." Out of force of habit, Destiny goes to play with her amulet around her neck, but it's not there. There's a frantic look on her face.
"What's wrong?" Scarlet says.
"The amulet. Where—"
"You didn't have it when I got you. Wolves must have snagged it."
In between heavy, dry coughs, she manages to mutter out, "Bull. . .shit. Where is it?"
Letting out a sigh she begins to say something else but she quickly catches herself. "I'll go get you some food. Stay right here. After you finish, shower up and head into the press room." Scarlet jumps up out the chair, as if eager to dodge the subject of the conversation.
The hell is she hiding, Destiny thought to herself. After the door shuts, she becomes curious as to the truth behind everything. Scarlet's words ring in her ears momentarily. You can sense better than just an average human. Concentrate. Think about what there is, not what appears in your vision. Think about what is being said or heard, not just the words or noises admitted from its source.
After taking a slow deep breath, she listens hard. The hum of the electrical generator quiets down. Scarlet's voice can hardly be heard from just rooms away. Destiny makes out her own name being said somewhere in the conversation. Her focus is broken, hearing Scarlet's heels click across the marble floor at too high of an audio frequency.
"Ouch," Destiny whispers in pain while rubbing her temples as Scarlet walks in. Ask her, Destiny. Ask her now. What were Scarlet and The Overseer talking about last night. . .or whatever night that was."Oh yay. More wolf meat." Destiny says sarcastically, but devours her food as if she hasn't eaten before. After finishing, she asks, "How long was I out?"
"Since Wednesday. It's Saturday now."
"Then what's the real reason I was unconscious?"
"I already to—"
"Yeah but that's clearly bullshit. You don't get knocked out from a wolf attack, much less adrenaline levels, for over 12 hours." Checking the clock, Destiny sees the time and knows she has to go to the press room now. Letting out a sigh, she says, "I want an answer to this, Scarlet. Even if I don't get it from you, I'll get it." She begins to stand, but the aching pain pulsing throughout her body reminds her she needs to stay lying down. "Now help me up."
After walking Destiny halfway to the changing room, Scarlet says, "There's more about you than you think. There's some things I can't tell you, and you need to find out for yourself. Because if I did tell you. . .you would absolutely hate me for it." Destiny shoots her a glare, unsure whether to be frightened or threatened. She lets her go. "Alright get dressed. I'll be waiting."
"Okay." Destiny gets into the shower, using to towel racks inside for support. After showering, she hops on out and throws on her undergarments and puts on her new leather suit she attained Wednesday night. She found herself to be passively healing. Her legs aren't as weak anymore and her body doesn't burn. Walking out, she sees Scarlet dwindling around with her bow and arrow set. Handing them back to Destiny, Scarlet leads the way towards the press room. Ask her already.
"Hey wait!" Destiny called out.
Quickly spinning around, Scarlet says, "Forget something?"
"Almost. The night I blacked out," Scarlet swallows hard, as if she already knew what was about to be asked, "what did. . .what did you and The Overseer talk about?"
"Sure that wasn't a dream?"
"Well I mean I was in and out of consciousness."
"Did you have other visions or something of the sort?"
"Yeah, kinda"
"Then it had to be a dream."
Before Destiny could proceed arguing, Scarlet walked down the corridor into the press room. The Overseer was on screen.
"Welcome back to the real world, kiddo." The Overseer begins with a tone of amusement in his voice.
"Thanks." Destiny replies.
"Do you remember what we discussed?"
"An assassination needs to be taken place by me. Name of Ellie. Last name, location, and identity remain anonymous."
"That's quite a memory of yours. There anything else you remember? Something that happened beforehand or after?"
"I remember pain pulsing throughout my body. Cause is unknown, but until further discovery, I force myself to believe that I snuck out the other night, had a fight with some wolves and blacked out." Destiny eyes Scarlet with a mix of hatred and confusion, but yet to meet eye contact.
"Where's your amulet?" The Overseer questions. Scarlet digs it out of her pocket and gives to Destiny.
Raising an eyebrow, Destiny begins to question Scarlet's credibility to lie to her face but before she could start, surveillance footage of the press room from Wednesday night begins to show on the screen where The Overseer's silhouette once was. Seeing everything, she takes a closer look at when that other figure appeared next to her while the amulet shined bright like a diamond and her eyes were a vibrant, powerful blue.
"Wait, wait, pause it there," Destiny cuts in, "Is. . .is that another me?"
Without hesitation, Scarlet chimes in, "Yes. It is. You weren't meant to find out at all. You're powerful but we fear you're far too powerful. That or you'll abuse your powers like your sis—" Scarlet clamps her hands over her mouth, realizing she's said too much.
