A Missed Shot

Chapter Eleven

Scarlet just finishes killing off an entire horde of wolves. Impressed with her body count, she repairs the barriers the wolves have broken down. In the process she accidentally punctures the bite wound on her forearm and blood gushes out.

She sucks her teeth. "Dammit." Her comm device goes off. It's The Overseer.

"Hey Scarlet."

She nearly jumps out of her skin then sighs, resting her hand on her forehead. She goes down into the crypt with the organization's emblem on the door and heads into the bathroom to patch herself up. "Hi."

"Destiny just got to the Winchesters' hideout spot. She should be ready and on her way in a few days."

"Okay, good. Why exactly are you telling me this?"

"Honestly? Small talk. She is, after all your best friend." Scarlet scoffs. "But that's not why I'm contacting you. I got a job for you I need done."

"Well, on with it."

"You are a part of the battle between Destiny and Ellie, you realize that correct?"

Stammering, she responds, "Well, I do now."

"Right. So I need you to get something. This something is the key to the aftermath of their battle."

She finishes wrapping the last bandage. "Aftermath?"

"I'll explain later. You have four days for this job, Scarlet. You can not, I repeat, can not screw this up."

"What makes you think I will?"

"Good point. Have you ever heard of the Scythe of Osiris?"

"I've heard of Osiris. Close enough, right?"

"Guess so. You need this scythe, Scarlet."

"I'm trained for strictly unarmed combat and archery, you realize that right?"

"I do. But don't worry about it. You'll get some expert training of course."

"Uh-huh. . ."

"The Scythe of Osiris. You're goin' out of state."

"Where to?"

"Portland, Maine. I'll explain when you get there. You need to move now. Time is of the essence."

"Got it." The comm disconnects and she shuts the cabinet to the medical supplies and walks out. She gasps at the sight of a man standing there and sets up for a bare knuckle brawl. "Who the hell are you?"
