The small jolt of the plane's touchdown shook Commander Junmyeon out of his slight doze. He blinked several times and shrugged his shoulders hard to wake up his subordinate in the seat next to him who had nodded off on his shoulder. The latter snapped awake looking embarrassed and suddenly became engrossed in the top button of his shirt.
"Hey how did you manage to sneak a camera on here?" a voice whispered behind him.
"Shut up?!" the assumed offended sighed exasperatedly. "Look, it's so pretty here! I just want pictures to send to my mom!" he explained sheepishly to Sehun who had turned and given him a look from between the seats.
"Put it away, Jongdae."
"Yes sir..." the soldier mumbled before shooting the rat out a glare.
The other boy grinned and flopped back into his seat from where he was hanging over the seat in front of him ratting on his fellow classmate.
"And Baekhyun?" Junmyeon suddenly raised his voice into the tone he always found himself using when he addressed the troublesome soldier. "Sit your ass in the seat right now."
"Okay okaaaaaay! Yikes." Baekhyun mumbled and obeyed but purposely slumped until his back was practically resting on the seat cushion. He kicked his legs against the heels of the person in front of him spitefully.
"Baekhyun! Knock it off!"
Baekhyun stopped immediately. That was Minseok who was perfectly capable of throwing him out of the plane if he was pissed enough, and judging how Baekhyun had already been bothering his younger brother Jongdae, things were not looking too promising in that area.
"Don't sit like that, you'll wrinkle your uniform." Junmyeon commented without turning around.
"UGGHHHHHHH!" Baekhyun begrudgingly sat up straight while dragging his hands down his face.
"Dude, think about it though, there might be cute girls there." his seat partner elbowed him hard in the side. He was in the middle of scrutinizing his bleach blond hair with the help of a very tiny and probably forbidden pocket mirror with skulls on it.
Baekhyun scoffed "You're such a girl." he observed, watching him fuss.
"Don't insult girls by comparing them with Sehun." the person in the row across from them commented, not looking up from their book.
A chorus of "Buuuuuuuuuurn" arose from the cabin.
Kyungsoo, deadpan savage as usual. The plane taxied to a stop in front of the large gray building that sprawled through the slightly wooded area that surrounded the clearing for the tarmac. Junmyeon peered out the window. Outpost 5, their first assignment. He and his class had just graduated the academy last month and had been awaiting their first orders. Fresh out of school and the training grounds, all of them were extremely excited and most probably extremely unqualified for this. Only fifteen minutes into the flight here and Junmyeon had already had his doubts when Jongdae had announced over the loudspeaker from the cockpit that the plane was going to make an emergency landing and to brace for impact as a prank (Junmyeon still wasn't quite sure how he got past the lock on the cockpit door, or...or how he managed any of it really), but it had resulted in chaos. He never knew a group of 8 boys could scream so high. It was a good example of exactly how mediocre they all were, because the situation had played out like this:
Kyungsoo had pushed an extremely irritated Luhan out of the way to get to the emergency exit, Yixing hadn't even woken up at the announcement, Chanyeol had stood up too fast and knocked his head so hard on the low ceiling he stunned himself, Sehun just stood there covering his ears next to Baekhyun who was curled up in a ball on his seat screaming (he continued to scream for a good minute after everyone else realized it was a false alarm). At this point, Minseok, who Junmyeon felt himself relying on more and more as being the only one capable of anything in this entire squad, had collected Jongdae and made him sit next to him for the remainder of the ride, even though he was laughing too hard to yell at him. Jongdae sat there with the biggest smile Junmyeon had ever seen and was all around way too cute to scold so he announced that he had given him permission to as a surprise drill (no one bought it but no one said anything either so the incident slid). He heard Minseok high-fiving Jongdae after he turned around. At that point he felt a headache coming on, maybe from his team's blatant incompetence, maybe from Baekhyun 's screams which had given him a ringing in his ears, but at any rate, he had closed his eyes and gave in to the urge to sleep, praying that he wouldn't wake up to find the plane on fire in the middle of the jungle, or worse, crash landed into the palace of the dictator of North Korea.
Chanyeol told him afterwards that the worst thing that had happened was that they had to physically remove Kyungsoo from strangling Baekhyun because he had been kicking the back of his seat (Minseok had enforced the necessary seat changes)
