"For now, you are in the clear. If you experience any dizziness or nausea, you can always come back." With a monotone voice, the doctor turns to his computer to fill in a report on my health. The sound of his keyboard tapping filled the room as his nurse clears some files on the table. She then smiles at me and gestures me to the door.
I thank her and exit the room to see Souji typing something into his phone. He must be reporting my wellbeing to my father. "Can we go now? I'm sick of the smell in here." Souji gives me a look and moves to my side. When we are outside he hails a cab and we jump in to head home.
We don't speak to each other in the car. He is still tapping away with his phone while I stare out to the bustling city, watching the people and trees go by as fast as I could run. The driver finally steers into our rich neighbourhood and stops in front of our house, where my father stands waiting impatiently. At the sight of our cab, he charges up to the vehicle, shoves the money into the driver's face, and proceeds to drag me out of the car by force. Souji follows, not commenting on how harshly my father is handling me.
Once we are in the house, I shake his hand off and glare at him. "What the hell are you doing? It hurts!"
"I am so disappointed in you, Jun. I've already warned you and looked at the situation you've almost landed yourself into!" My father sighs in exasperation as Mitsu appears out of the kitchen, wiping her wet hands on the apron.
He has always been disappointed in me. When I showed him my theatre awards, who was the one who brushed it off like it was nothing? My father.
Now he wants to act like the parent he never was?
"Thank you, Souji, for getting her in time," Mitsu says.
Why is this woman acting like she's my mother? Mitsu's just my father's girlfriend. They're probably going to break up in a few months' time, so that doesn't give her the authority to pretend like she's part of the family. I turned my glare at her, earning a scowl from her brother.
"Stop being rude and look at me!" My father yells, jolting me in shock. Did he just shout at me because of that woman? I feel my eyes brimming with tears.
"Look here, old man," I say slowly. "You have been ignoring me for the past sixteen years, back when I still need your parental guidance and attention." I scoff loudly. "And now you want to care about me when it's too late?"
My father turns so red he could match with a tomato. "What did you say to me?"
"I said, stop acting like you care in front of people you want to impress!" My voice raises and I eye Mitsu angrily. "I'm telling you, girl, when you leave him, I will be abandoned alone in the streets! You are the reason why he's pretending like he gives a f--"
I feel my neck snap to the side, and I realise with a sickening gut that I was slapped by my father. I raise my head to glare at him, tears now spilling from my eyes. "I'm such a bad child, right? Hit me more then! I deserve it!"
My father glances up from his hand. "Look, Jun," he starts. "I--"
Covering my ears I head upstairs. "I don't want to hear bullshit from you anymore! Save that for your new family!" I take two steps at a time and rush into my room, slamming the door behind me. I run up to my closet and throw it open. Then I grab my luggage at the bottom of my bed and begin stuffing it with clothes.
I'm getting out of here, out of this pretentious family.
I hear the door open behind me, and out of the corner of my eye I can see Souji walking in. I jerk my head at him, sneering, and he is expressionless.
"I know why you're here. They probably asked you to clean up their mess. Save it." I turn back to my luggage. "Don't pretend like you actually care."
There is a minute of silence before he speaks. "I don't care about you," he shrugs. I know that in the first place, but there is an ache in my heart. "I only care about my sister."
I roll my eyes. "Yes whatever. Get out of here and tell her to piss off my affairs." I zip up my luggage and drag it to the door. "Now will you please get the hell out of my way?"
Souji stares at me for a while before edging closer. "And what if I say no?"
My eyes refuse to leave his face. "If you say no, I'll kick you in the place where it hurts most."
A smile stretches across his previously emotionless face. "Oh really? I'll like to see you try."
This guy really loves to provoke me. I move my leg to do what I've promised and Souji moves faster. He grabs my leg, leaving me balancing on the other.
This guy really wants me to kill him, huh?
I clutch my fist, aiming at his face, to which he dodges easily. Souji drops my leg and grabs both of my hands. I struggle and upon realising that Souji is too strong, I try to kick him again. This results in him pinning my legs between his and we are tangled in a really awkward position.
I stop fighting to frown at him when I realise how close we actually are. I can feel Souji's breath tickling my lips, and I blush deep red. Damn it. Of all people, why am I feeling like this in front of my nemesis?
"Let me go," I manage to speak.
Souji tilts his head. "And or else what? You'll kick me in the crotch?"
"You idiot! Stop using my own words against me!" I stuggle again, refusing to back down this time. I begin to feel myself falling backwards, causing me to pull Souji along with me. We hit the floor, my head colliding the carpeted floor hard. My luggage falls too and I groan in pain, noticing that Souji's grip on me has loosened. I also realised that because of the fall, he is lying on top on me. My first reflex is to blush and push him away, but Souji stays in that position. Is he knocked out? I try to take a look at his face, but he doesn't bulge.
I am so sure that he has fainted when I feel his lips on my neck. Oh. My God. You've gotta be kidding me. What is he doing now!? "Get off me!" I push him away with all my might and Souji moves to look at my face. His expression has darkened so much in contrary to his usual cheeky grin that I freeze. Souji looks as if I had betrayed him or something--which I don't think I did. He grabs my chin and begins to smile maliciously.
"You still owe me a favour, don't you?" He moves closer, and I try to edge away as far as the floor will allow. "For saving your life."
"Yes...and?"
He drops his smile for a second. In a flash, I understand what he is planning to do to me, but I am too slow to react. My mind screams internally as Souji comes closer, sealing our lips with a kiss.
