Souji had written the directions to the school bully's home the previous night, so here I am on a weekend, standing in front of Itou Kashitarou's door. My hand stretches out to knock on it, but I hesitate. What if he is a big guy? How do I threaten him to stop bullying others?
According to the devil, Itou has been harassing other students ever since he was a freshman. No one has been able to stop him, but apparently Souji has 'absolute faith' in me.
I glare at the brown wooden door. What if he hits me and I break an arm or two? Is Souji going to take care of me then? I doubt the guy is willing to do that. He will probably say something like it is all my fault.
Shutting my eyes tight, I bang my fist onto the door. As it opens, I swiftly put on my 'mask'. A boy at my age stares down at me in confusion. I'm acting now, I'm acting now, my mind reminds me. My eyes meet his and I smile emotionlessly.
"You Itou Kashitarou?" I dramatically loosen my collar as if I'm getting ready for a fight.
"I am," the boy replies, his eyes narrowing. "You are?"
Man does the guy look like a snake. I resist the urge to insult him now and grit my teeth. "Great, the person I'm looking for." My voice is low and my heart jumps at the excitement of acting despite the situation. How long had I not played a role? "Akamine Jun."
"I don't know you."
"Of course you don't my dear." I curse at myself in my head for adding the last word. That is totally unnecessary. Itou seems to agree with my thoughts as his eyes narrow even further, if that is possible. My expression turns serious and I look up at him grimly. "So I've heard you've been giving the students at Hakuou High hell."
Itou's eyebrow raises. "And what has that got to do with you?"
I chuckle in the manliest way I can. "It does. Because I cannot stand the idea of just watching you sin." I almost choke on my own words. How does my brain even come up with such dialogue? Maybe I have been watching too much sparkling vampire movies.
Itou's narrowed eyes widen by a fraction. "Wh...what did you just say?" He struggles to speak.
Did I say something wrong? I rack my brains but nothing significant comes up. "I mean what I said." I wink at him. It is probably the last straw for him as he makes a grab for me. I am a little too slow, being too into my role, but calmly place a hand on his. "Please listen to me--"
Itou pulls me towards him, and I crane my neck away from his face. "You asking for a beating?"
This guy...I am beginning to lose patience--I don't have all the time in the world to pacify him. I want some time to myself too, considering that it is a Saturday. I shoot him the sharpest scowl and he flinches at the unexpected reaction.
"If I hear anyone complaining about your bullying, you'll bear the consequences." I slap his hands from my collar and brush the dust off my shoulders. I give him a wave without looking back, and as soon as I turn to a corner I clutch at my chest.
My heart pounds so fast I swear it is going to jump out of me. I take a few deep breaths and manage to calm down when Souji appears beside me, giving me a different kind of heart attack.
"Souji! Why the hell are you here?" I pant.
He gives me his usual smile. "To check on you." He looks over my shoulder. "It seems like a success." I follow his glance to see Itou kneeling on the ground, shaking. Did my warning really scare him that much?
