CHAPTER SONG: Any song :)
Katrina's POV
It's been a week since school started and turns out me and Steven actually have lab together, not that it matters cause we're not even partners but I guess it's better than nothing. Also, Mia and I have Civil History together, which is what we are in now.
It's around 4:30 right now and the lecture hall we sat in is fairly empty. Most of the students on their phones, probably discussing plans with their friends after class since it was Friday.
"So what are you doing later?" Mia whispered.
"I have work, 6 to 10" I told her.
"What the hell you've been working for a week straight..." She kinda whispered yelled.
"Yeah...I'm off Sunday and Monday" I laughed, glancing at the professor.
"Okay it's settled, you and I are hanging out on Sunday" She said pointed her index finger at me before closing her notebook and putting it in her purse.
"Okay" I smiled. Mia is really sweet. Super sassy on the outside but the complete opposite on the inside.
She told me anything and everything about herself in the three days of class that we had together. From school to family to her love life. Her major is accounting and she has a younger brother, Elliot, who is still in high school. She told me she met the guys in middle school when she transferred schools and that all four of them clicked. She started liking Dustin in 8th grade, a year after they first met. She didn't think he liked her back though, at least not that way but her feelings only seemed to get stronger as time passed and before she knew it, she was in love with him. She was happy as long as he was and didn't want to ruin their friendship because he shared everything with her and vice versa. She had two boyfriends in high school but both lasted about a month. The second guy left her after taking her virginity. That was the only thing she ever hid from Dustin, all she told him was that he broke up with her. Mia said Dustin never reacted when she would tell him about her boyfriends. 'It was like he didn't care' she said, but she and I both know that's not true. I don't know about the boyfriend thing but he definitely cares about her. I don't even know him but it's written all over his face that he does.
Their senior year prom night, all four of them went as a group along with ten other friends. Mia was in a shitty mood the entire night, not because of Dustin it was just one of those days. He noticed because apparently, she was, 'wallowing in self-despair'. They both took the bus to her house, her parents were home but were cool with Dustin being their 'cause they knew him for as long as Mia did plus her parents think he's a good guy, which he is. While they talked, one thing led to another and they ended up having sex. I audibly gasped when she first told me. It was the most incredible yet saddest nights of her life. Incredible, because it was spent with the love of her life. Saddest, because she knew it was just another hook up for him. He didn't leave until the next afternoon and she didn't stop crying until the morning after that. After that night, their relationship became slightly more intimate but besides that, nothing changed.
"Kat let's go" Mia singsonged. I looked up to find people leaving the room while Mia stood above me tapping her foot on the floor. I was so lost in thought, I didn't realize that class had ended.
"You wanna grab a coffee since I have an hour before work?" I ask her as we exited the building. I would honestly never ask anyone to hang out like this but with Mia, I felt comfortable. She's the first person I would call a friend. A real friend.
"Sure" She smiled, "oh, by the way, I'll probably come to the library later cause I need to do homework and can't focus because of my roommate's annoying country music playlist...don't get me wrong I don't mind the country music but she blasts that shit 24/7" She exasperated.
I chuckled as I opened the door for us to the little coffee shop on campus.
We got our coffees and took a seat on the couch at the corner of the shop.
"So how's Steven treating you?" She asked after taking a sip of her mocha frappe.
"fine...he's nice" I said retying my ponytail.
"he can be a dick at times, but overall he's a good guy" she said nodding her head.
I snorted before speaking, "he's never acted like that towards me"
"he better not, I'll smack him silly if he does...wow haven't said that in a while" she blinked a few times.
"I'll let you know if he does" I chuckled "so what do you wanna do Sunday?"
"Hmm I don't know wanna go shopping?" She shrugged.
"okay" I agreed.
We talked for another twenty minutes until I remembered that I forgot to bring my work jacket with me. I told Mia that I had to go back to the dorms to pick it up and then go to work because it was already 5:40.
+*+*+*+
We said our goodbyes when the elevator reached the third floor. I exited at the fifth floor and made my way down the hall to the dorm. I slid the room card on the side of the lock and pushed the door open. I gasped so loud I'm sure the people next door heard me.
I saw a girl against Steven's closet while he gazed down at her. He was in his jeans with his shirt off. They both looked at me over his arm that was next to her head. I walked further into the room slowly but still managed to trip over their clothes, "shit" I mumbled.
"I won't be long" I chuckled and waved my hand awkwardly as I walked to my closet. I felt their eyes on me while I took out the jacket. It was pin drop silence. I'm gonna cringe so hard when I think about this later. Screw later, I'm already cringing. I jogged back to my book bag by the door. I was about to leave until I realized something.
Where is my dorm key?
I knelt down and lifted my bag off the floor and started looking around. Why is this happening to me? I slid my hand under the entry table, feeling around for the stupid piece of plastic. "I can't find it..." I muttered, frustrated with myself. I looked up at Steven with a guilty expression and then at her. I quickly averted my gaze to the left and shielded my eyes with my right hand when I noticed that she was only in her underwear. I almost did a happy dance when my eyes landed on the purple card by their clothes, I guess I dropped it when I tripped. Idiot.
I reached out to it at lightning speed and shot up from the crouched position. "Got it!" I held it up next to me like I was in a commercial. My smile quickly turned into a frown when I felt something graze my elbow. Curiously, I looked down, "oh my god uh..." a very lacy navy blue bra was hooked onto the card.
fuck my life.
I shook it off, letting it fall back to the pile of clothes on the floor. I looked up again, finding them already staring at me.
"sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry..." I repeated, throwing my bag over my shoulder and hanging the jacket on my forearm. Twisting the handle on the door, I escaped the tension-filled room. My chant of 'sorry' continued till the elevator doors closed.
Yup, that was the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me...
