Petals || Keith x Reader

An illness born from one sided love, where the patient throws up flower petals when they suffer from one sided love. The infection can be removed through surgery, but feelings disappear with the petals.

(Reader POV)

I was training in the training room with Keith. He was beating me, again, for the 100th time! "You're..r - really......good," I said, in between breaths. He replied, "Not so bad yourself (Y/N). You're getting strong, I'm proud of you." Hearing those words made me want to hug my pillow and scream in it. Yes, I had a crush on the red paladin.  I don't know if he has feelings for me, but I'm going to be confident.

"Thanks Keith," I replied, blushing. Lance soon came in, with his infamous smirk. "What's goin' on in here?" I rolled my eyes in a playful way, "Nothing Lance, just training. Isn't that what you're supposed to be doing as well?" I smirked back at him. His cocky smirk dropped and turned into a nervous smile, "Ah..hahahaha..! Bye!" He ran off.. typical Lance.

   "When does that guy ever learn huh? Wanna continue?" I asked. I looked over at him, with a blush on his face. "Hey..(Y/N)..? Can we talk for a minute?" He asks, fear laced in his voice. I nod and we sat down on the floor across each other.

"S - So.. what's your opinion on.. LGBT+..?" He played with his Marmora dagger, all his attention on it. "Well I think all LGBT+ people are alright. They can love who they want and be who they want. Why you ask?" I smiled. "It's cause I...I um.." he stuttered. "Keith, you okay..?" "Look... I like Lance.. it's not weird is it..?" He said, looking up at me.

Everything for me just froze... he doesn't love me...

He doesn't love me.......

"(Y/N)...? You still with me..?" He waved his hand in front of my face. Tears were threatening to fall, but I held them all back.. for Keith's sake. "R - Really? You should talk to him then..! Don't bottle the feelings up..!" It was my turn to stutter. He smiled big, "You're right! Thanks (Y/N), I know I can always count on you." He got up and ran to probably Lance's room.

I finally let all the tears out, they just kept coming.. he doesn't love me.

   I felt a pain in my chest.. I started to cough, I put my hand up to my mouth. It hurts.. I can't stand it. I removed my hand from my mouth... and I saw red flower petals in my palm.

   I already knew what I had.. I don't know if Allura's Altean medicine could heal this. I'm screwed...

   "(Y/N)!! Are those flower petals!?" I heard Hunk yell. I didn't even notice the blood running down the corner of my mouth. "Hunk... please.. d - don't say anything..!" I plead to the man. He sighs but nods. I can't let the others know.. I'll make them all worry and distract them from their mission.

(T I M E   S K I P)

    Weeks go by and the disease gets even worse. More blood, more tears. Hunk kept his promise to me.. What I fear is how long he can keep it. I get weaker and weaker with each passing day, the red petals are everywhere. Hunk came up to me with a serious aura, "(Y/N) you have to tell them sooner or later, I'm really getting worried..." He pouted. He cares about all of us, he loves us all so much. I smiled, "Hunk, don't worry. I will when I'm ready... It's just really hard. Thank you for caring Hunk." I gave him a tight hug. Hunk was a person I go to when I need comfort. He's also a good hugger.

   I started to cough again, this time it hurt badly. I lost balance.

(Hunk POV)

Oh no! She's gotten WORSE! "Shiro! Allura! Anybody HELP!!" I yell at the top of my lungs. Shiro came running in first, "Hunk?! What's...going on..?" "Shiro! It's (Y/N)!! She..She has a disease and she keeps coughing up red petals!" I explained everything I knew to him. He looked surprised, he must know what she has..

"The petals.. they're red.. that means.. she loved Keith. But Keith he doesn't love her back. That's why she is coughing up the petals. It's a disease born from one-sided love, the only way to get rid of it is through surgery.. but feelings disappear with the petals," Shiro explained. Poor (Y/N).. I can't imagine how this must feel for her, but Keith.. he has no idea.. "What happened to (Y/N)?!" As if on que, Keith ran in with Lance on his tail.

"Keith.. she has the hanahaki disease. I remember telling you about this," Shiro told him. Keith looked at (Y/N) sadly, "Y - You don't mean that...-"

"Yes Keith, she loved you. But you didn't love her in return. Now she is suffering from this.."

Keith was speechless.. He didn't know, he didn't know she loved him.

Keith started to cough...

In his hands were (F/C) petals.....
