Estelle
I walk downstairs, where August's dad sits at the table, a cup of coffee in front of him.
Atlas bounds over to me, sniffing my socked feet.
I bend down and pick him up.
He makes sure to kiss my face plentifully.
I carry him into the kitchen, where he starts yapping at the sight of August's mom, just to shut him up, I place him on the linoleum floor.
"August I swear if I have to clean up a bowl, I'm not going to ne happy." His mom says, before turning around. "Oh it's you."
"Estelle." I say, putting out my hand for a shake, just like Nigel taught me.
"I'm August's mom, Mary." She says, completely disregarding my hand, and going in for a hug.
"Wow, You guys hug a lot." I joke once she lets me go.
She laughs. "We're a huggy family Estelle."
"I see that." I say.
August walks downstairs and right back into the kitchen. "I've seen you met my mom."
I nod. "She's very nice."
"Yes, I've heard." He says.
Mary narrows her eyes at August. "August, you broke my only punch bowl for the party tonight."
My eyes widen. "There's a party? D'ya want me to just stay in Aug's room?"
"No, you're invited, it's okay." Mary says.
"I don't think I have anything to wear..." I sigh, pushing my semi-tangled hair out of my face. |
Rebecca leans into the room. "Me and the girls are going shopping later."
"Well it's settled, you can be my date to the party." August says, nudging me.
An unfamiliar voice speaks behind me. "I didn't think you needed a date."
I spin around, suddenly facing a girl with red-dyed hair, a muscle tee, ripped black jeans, and combat boots.
"Sammy!" Mary says happily. "You made it."
"I would never think of ditching your Christmas party, Mrs. Jones." She says.
"Hi Sam." August smiles.
She smiles. "Hey, Blitz."
August smiles. "I see you remember my childhood nickname."
"How could I forget? It's practically the only thing I call you." She says. Then her eyes meet mine. "Oh who's this?"
"I'm Estelle." I say, before quickly adding. "Estelle Zaveri."
She throws her head back and laughs. "Well, I'm obviously Sam." She then adds. "Sam Horcrux."
I smile tightly. "Nice to meet you."
"Right back at you. Are the girls upstairs?" She asks, more to Mary than me.
"Yeah." I answer.
"Thanks, I'm gonna go say hi to them." Sam turns and walks away, but I can't help but notice the two long jagged cuts down the back of her shirt, along with the two gruesome scars underneath.
I turn to August. "I thought you only had three sisters?"
"Sam's like a sister, she's Trisha's best friend." He answers.
"Oh." I smile awkwardly. "I think I'm gonna go get ready."

The mall was weird, everyone was rushing, probably because most of the stores were running out of supplies for Christmas gifts.
We all got outfits from the boutique Trisha co-owned, I got a backless (though it did have a strap across the back to cover my scar) black cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline, Trisha got a grey collared shirt with a navy cardigan. Kathryn got a nice army green sweater and white washed jeans. Rebecca got a maroon jumpsuit, and Sam wanted to go with what she had on.
We got home at about noon, so we decided to watch Christmas movies with August, Darion, and another guy that Rebecca curled up with.
Now, it's 4:30 and we decided to start getting ready.
"Hey Trisha, hand me that brush." Rebecca says, pointing at a brush I couldn't see.
The girls had sat me in a chair to do my makeup and hair.
Kathryn was currently 'fishtail braiding' my hair, whatever that means, and Rebecca is doing my makeup.
"Okay, E, we're almost done." Rebecca assures me, patting my arm, applying powder onto my eyes.
"Done with the hair." Kathryn says, before I feel a small thud land on my back.
There's a semi long pause before Rebecca breaks it with a: "Done with the makeup."
"Okay, now lets all get dressed." Trisha says, getting off of the bed.
I walk into August's room and grab my dress off the bed then close the door.
As quickly as I can, I change my into my dress, which isn't very quick because I was very cautious about my makeup and hair.
I zip up the zipper which wasn't too difficult because the dress itself was backless.
Smiling I open the door, walking out and standing by Sam, who was waiting for the other girls.
"You look nice." She smiles, pushing her firetruck red out of her face. |
I smile gratefully. "Thanks, do you think August will like it?"
She makes a face like she's thinking. "Absolutely."
"That's good. I though he was gonna think it's a little promiscuous." I admit.
"I think it's very nice." She smiles. "So you're Blitz's girl?"
"Yeah." I answer. "Anyway, what are these things usually like?"
She shrugs. "They can be very dainty, or very wild, it kinda depends on the size of the guest list and the theme."
"Do you like the dainty or the wild?" I ask.
"I prefer the wild, it's funner." She says.
"Where'd you get those scars on your back?" I blurt.
"I was born with them you could say, or if you prefer, I was mauled by a very angry two clawed bear."
"Fun." I say.
She laughs.
Kathryn walks out of her room standing on the opposite side of Sam. "You ready?"
"Depends, how's the guest list?" Sam asks.
"A hundred to two hundred people." Kathryn informs.
"Sweet." Sam smirks.
Trisha joins us in the hallway. "I am so excited."
"Same." Sam says. "Hope it's a banger."
"Oh God, Sam, nobody says that anymore." Trisha face-palms, laughing.
Rebecca finally joins us in the hallway. "It's five shall we make our grand entrance ladies?"
Everyone but me in the group hoots and hollers. All I could think was I was going mess up somehow.
"Come on, let's go." Sam says.
My brain freezes, here goes my first Jones style party.
