The following day was a bit of a blur to Beth. She still despised Christian for what he did to her father but she might as well shake it off and not let him ruin her vacation.Beth took a bath and decided to make a new painting before she continues the old one since she wants to go back the place where she saw the puppy and look at the surrounding, she wanted the painting to be similar at the place.
Beth stood at Kate's terrace as dipped her brush on the green paint and gently stroked on the canvas, she looked behind the canvas and analyzed on the background, the forest. She started to close her eyes and took a deep breath.
Last night.
Last night she saw something odd, something unreal, something that made her feel uneasy as it was watching her.
Iris entered the room and laid down beside her foot, Beth bent down to pat her dog, chuckling at her husky as she continued her painting and looked straight again.
Could animals grow that big? Was it a dream? Beth shook her thoughts away and continued stroking on the canvas.
Kate looked at her niece and knocked, letting Beth know she was there.
"You wanna go out to eat?" Kate asked.
Beth nodded and placed the palette and brush on the table beside the canvas.
The two walked to Flo's Diner which was a short destination from Kate's house. As soon as they sat on their booth and said their orders, Kate started the conversation.
"Your parents went out, they'll be back next week." Kate said and Beth's face fell.
"So much for a family bonding. Where'd they go?" Beth questioned as the waitress placed their food on the table.
"Home. They had to talk some things out." Kate said as she ate her fries.
"I see, where are we going after this?"
"You tell me, you saw half of the place here." Kate sipped on her drink.
"The people here are kind of weird." Beth said as she as she ate her burger. "Like yesterday, I saw a wolf." Kate stopped eating and looked at Beth.
"What do you mean? Where?" Kate asked.
"I was walking the dogs, right? Then I met Jane, then met her friend Miguelle, which is another weird thing because Jane called him beta, which is...," Beth rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I know what beta means but why does it apply to him? And I'm still annoyed about that Christian dude."
"Okay, keep your voice down when you speak of Christian," Kate whispered and signaled Beth to lean down. Beth was hesitant at first because the moment she spoke of Christian almost everyone at the diner looked at them.
"Why are we positioned like this?" Beth asked as she tried to eat her fries leaning at her aunt.
"Let's say that Christian is kind of powerful here." Kate said in a low voice.
"Powerful?" Beth snorted. "Like as in mayor of this town."
"Something like that. Let's continue this chat at the house where there are less eyes in the room." Kate said and Beth nodded.
