“Welcome, welcome, the time has come to select one courageous man and woman for the honor of representing District 4 on the seventy-second annual Hunger Games” I repeated in whispers what my mother was saying at the moment while I looked her with disgust. “Let’s have the boys picked first this year” She said, she walked to the center of the stage with the annoying sound of her 10inch heels to pick a name from the big bowl thons of guys just entered names on.

It wasn’t too late until a guy shouted, “I volunteer as tribute!” He said with a proud smile on his face, that type of smile I hate, the proud type of smile that was cocky in a distinct way, I hate the most of the Careers, they think is funny to train to kill people for having the honor of calling themselves ‘’Victors’’, which in my opinion is a way to call yourself murderer, although there are people out there that actually win for seeing their families again, they had hope, and that made them strong, but unfortunately sooner or later they would fall in the Capitol’s game.

“Well, it looks like we have a tribute” My mother said clapping excited, “What’s your name sweetie?” She asked the boy that stood happily at the podium

“Alexander Trent” he said proudly as I rolled my eyes.

“Now, its ladies turn” She said, she looked at me and I smiled at her evilly, she was about to pick up a paper from a bowl that had my name on it 48 times, 6 because I was 17 by the time and the others because I helped a poor family of the District with tesserae. I really could tell that I was as good person, I never had bad intentions and I actually wanted to help the ones in need. My mom hesitated to pick a name from the bowl, she was afraid I could get picked.

She was hoping a girl volunteered and so that happened. “I volunteer as tribute!” a blonde girl proudly announced

“Oh, it looks we have another bitch over here” I whispered imitating the ironic voice my mom made and my best friend Pauline laughed.

“You should be honored, you had one of the highest possibilities of getting picked since the majority doesn’t ask for tesserae” She said laughing slightly

“The majority shits on toilets made of glass while a small percent of the people is starving, I shit on gold and I make good for the others, see?” I said annoyed, Pauline chuckled. I ignored my mom while she presented the Career tributes, however she was going to take me with her, I only met her once a year, for my luck, she is sorry and I actually wish I didn’t hate her but I feel I have to, she has made my life a mess, the guys never got mad at me, they actually felt proud of it, they actually messed with my mom telling her she was creating a rebel. It has been over a year I don’t hear of them, I wish they are all right, but in Snow’s hands they would be probably dead or have been tortured by the Capitol, since I haven’t seen my mom in three years I am not informed, when I went to the Capitol she was too busy doing her job as a escort so we couldn’t talk a lot, I hope she has some news for me.

I was at the train to the Capitol with my best friend Pauline, I brought her so she could make me company while my mom took care of the other guys of the District, “Why is your mom escorting District 4 this year? I thought she was the escort of District 12” Pauline asked

“We are two guessing why” I said while I grabbed a cup of wine

“God damn Emma, do you want me to die?” My mother said entering the room in her high heels

“Yes, I don’t know why you would but I feel honored to know I can do it unconsciously” I said and drank a zip of the liquid in the cup

“You know what my impression was when the mayor told me you were planning to enter your name 49 times?” She said, “And leave that cup there, you remember me of Haymitch and thank God he’s not here” She said grabbing my cup angry

“48“ I said correcting her “And sorry for trying to make a poor family have supplies for a year, I guess good is not enough for you” I said rolling my eyes

“That is not the way!” She said. Pauline was already used to it, every year since I moved to District 4 I brought her, and every year my mom made another scenario. “Come here and introduce yourself to the tributes, I know they would feel good knowing people of their ages” She said opening the door

“No thanks, I’m not bad enough to meet bitchy people” I said smiling sarcastically.

“Emma…” Pauline said getting up

“Ok, ok” I said getting up

“Thanks Pauline” My mom said smiling at her and she got out of the room

“You are just like her” I said laughing

“I just want to make a good impression to the one and only Effie Trinket” She said laughing, we opened the door and entered the room were Alexander and the blonde girl I never paid attention to hear her name sat next to Finnick.

“Hello” I said emotionless sitting next to them while Pauline sat next to me, my mother gave me a glare and I started to smile exaggerating, Finnick laughed

“You have her well trained Effie” He said to my mother, the tributes smiled

“So, what were you talking about?” I asked

“Sponsors” the blonde said

“Well, I was there when Finnick participated, and most of the things Mags said to him was to act nicely to everyone” I said

“Yes, and remember that if you need help I will make sure to get them, ok?” He said, they all nodded, “I see we have talked a lot about it and judging of you knowledge you are well trained, so, I will let you guys chitchat a little” Finnick said standing up, god, Annie was one lucky girl, Finnick is extremely handsome.

“So, what are your names?” I asked them

“You didn’t hear them at the reaping?” The blonde one asked

“No, I usually tend to ignore the reaping… as I ignore my mother” I said and mumbled the last part, they all chuckled

“I heard that” Effie said fixing her hair

“Mom, don’t you have a room or something so you can let me talk without your judgments?” I said smiling

“Bloody hell, I guess I will” She said and left the room

“Queens’ fight” Alexander said laughing

“You should be happy to have the luck you will never get picked, by the way, I’m Charlotte” The blonde one said smiling

“Because of her? HAHAHA Snow hates me, he wouldn’t even care if I jumped off a cliff, I don’t get any benefits, I actually entered my name 48 times, as you can see I actually help others nothing like other people from the Capitol, its because of people like you I get my ass saved” I said and sighed

“I actually entered to avoid being the shadow of my sister, she won the once the games” Charlotte said looking down

“I’m actually making so I can die proud of myself, my family wasn’t the richest of the District and dealing with circumstances someday I might die because of starving” Alex said, ouch, I shouldn’t have criticized people so fast, well, I knew Careers from Districts 1 and 2 are buttholes.

“And what are you planning to do when you two are left? I mean, one of you has to die, or maybe both” Pauline asked them

“Well, Finnick told us that every alliance ends up spilling up, we plan to do that when there are a couple one left, we are not capable of killing each other, we have been friends since we were young” Charlotte said

“I guess that would be fair” I said, “Well, its getting late and I suppose you will want to take a little rest, tomorrow is a big day” I said getting up

“You sound just like your mom” Charlotte said laughing.

“It’s a bless and a curse” I said, they all laughed and Pauline and I went to our room.
