Prologue

Emmarose’s P.O.V. (X Factor 2010)

Dad is a cop. He is really sweet and everything... but, when it comes down to it, he is too protective. Whenever I ask him if I could go out with my friends, his immediate answer is always, “No.” Sometimes, I don’t even get to finish my question, and yet he says, “No.” That is exactly what happened on Monday. My best friend Valerie bought two tickets to watch the semi-final of this year’s X Factor. We both wanted to go together to see One Direction perform on the X Factor, and when the opportunity came, Valerie purchased two tickets to watch the X Factor live! When I brought up the topic to Father, everything didn’t go as I wanted.

Recap:

“Father, canValerieandIgotowatchtheXFactorperformance?” I practically spit out the words so that Father wouldn’t interrupt me when I spoke.

“What?” It was a Monday night, and Valerie had purchased the tickets over the weekend.

“Valerie bought two tickets to watch the X Factor. Can I go?” I was incredulous about his response, but it was worth a try.

“No.” That was his simple and plain answer.

"Dad, please?” I don’t ask for much, but this was probably a once in a lifetime chance to see One Direction since it was pretty obvious that their career would be taking off after the X Factor.

“No is no. I am sorry Emmarose, but you can’t go. It is too late at night, and I am working late that day.” He was stern, but still had sympathy in his voice. Dad was the only one who called me by my full name. Emmarose. But he only used it when he was being stern or serious about a topic.

Here I am on a Saturday night sitting on my couch watching the X Factor while Valerie is watching it live. I just sat on my couch sullen and melancholic. The performances were great, but I just wish that I was there to watch it. Why did Father have to be so protective after Mum died? There goes my chance of a lifetime.
