Day Before Yesterday
I found my journal, finally. Since I missed a few days, I thought I would catch you up now. I didn’t find the others in Cormyr. It’s a pretty big city. I realize now that we should have agreed on where to meet. While looking for them, I did get to at least enjoy the sights.
The market was quite busy, and there were some great things to look at. The people could have been nicer though. While looking at one merchant wares I noticed a very impressive juggler a little distance off. I forgot to put the trinket back, and the merchant thought I was stealing it. He shouted for the guards and I saw a few come right at me. They were as tall as horses, and I don’t mean the kind I’ve ridden. They also yelled at me really loud. I ran off and began to hide. It actually got fun at that point. I would pop out for a moment, stick my tongue out at them, and then find another good hiding place while they chased me. I did that until dusk, and then I settled into a great hiding place aboard a boat. By that point the guards weren’t even searching. I realized the people of Cormyr aren’t very safe if their city guards give up so easily.
I got bored hiding and I fell asleep. When I woke up, the ship had already set sail. I was so sad, because I never got to see a Purple Dragon. Cormyr is known for its Purple Dragons. Oh, and my friends! I didn’t find them either!
The boat ride was not very eventful. Despite a storm, we made it here fine… in Waterdeep. That’s where I met Brandon Lightfoot, Drax the Minotaur, and Omar the frail mage. They were talking about a thieves’ guild, and made it sound like an exciting place to see. I know better than to hang around thieves, but these guys made it sound like a secret club and you know how much I like to learn secrets. We all traveled around the trading ward looking for a guild.
Today
I saw a neat looking warehouse that looked like a prime spot for a secret guild, so I went to look inside. The door was locked, but that made it even more exciting. I figured thieves would hide their secrets using a lock, but I was disappointed at how easy this one was to figure out. When I opened the door and peeked inside, I saw a bunch of dingy bums with their feet kicked back. It turns out that they were guild members after all, so I watched over my stuff very closely.
The others came in and asked for an assignment, like they belonged there. While they were gabbing away, I searched a nearby table and found a map. I kept quite while examining it, so that I didn’t interrupt their conversation. I realized these guys likely stole the map from someone, so I tucked it away so that I could one day give it to its original owner. The map showed the North ward, and the size of the houses on the map suggested it was a very upscale place. I’ve been known to be invited for breakfast by royalty. We convinced the guild to lend us some fancy robes and passes to get past the North ward gates. So we set off to walk with kings.
When we arrived in the North ward, the others seemed determined to find a specific mansion. I realized I should’ve paid closer attention as the guild was spilling their secrets about this ward. When we found the mansion, Brandon and I explored the perimeter of the outer gate. It was as boring as any other stone wall you might look at. So I tired of walking around it and found a good spot to climb up it. I saw a creature shooting light from its eyes in random places. I’m not kidding! It was so bizarre! I returned to Brandon and dragged him back to tell the others. I didn’t drag him literally. That would be mean… but kind of funny. Anyway, I told everyone what I saw and they looked as confused as I was.
We all rushed to the wall and climbed over, except for Omar who leaped over it! I’ve been accused of lying before, and (even worse) of exaggerating, but I that he did! Cross my heart and hope to for a second death! I’m sure that mage did!
