Walking With Darkness

Chapter 5

After that amazing feeling, my surroundings finally stabilized. I saw the same kind of pitch black building silhouettes from the time I was here with mum. It seemed that my pursuers were disoriented from the jump. So I made a break for it.

And immediately ran into a tree. 

Or at least I think it was a tree. Hard to identify things when there's no colour variation. Imagine a rectangle. That rectangle could be the makings of a Picasso  worthy drawing of a laptop or.... building. But if you filled it with the same shade of black, then it's just a black rectangle. No dimensions, just a rectangle. that's what it's like to see anything in The Zone. But then, if there's a tree in front of a building, you can't tell because it's the same shade of black. It takes years of training to be able to see clearly in The Zone. Unless you're Frank of course. He could see clearly from his first jump. But that's besides the point

So yes, I ran into a tree.

Can we move on?

After recovering from the unspeakable incident, I tried to focus on the only thing mum had told me about The Zone. 

It's exactly the same as earth

I tried to remember what it looked like before I was brought here.                                                                                                                        .......fence on my left, tree in front of me............. empty sidewalk behind me!

So I turned 180 degrees, and ran. By this time, the guys who brought me here were casually walking behind me, their colorful bodies contrasting the black around them. None of them had a look of concern on their face. I continued running, faster now.

So then? where are you going ? 

Away from them. Isn't it obvious?

Then it hit me. Why they weren't chasing me. I slowed my pace almost walking now, then I stopped. feeling defeated. They weren't chasing me because they didn't have to. I was a rookie. 

I didn't know how to shadow-hop home.
