After a month of the same thing happening everyday, go to school, sleep, talk to Jacob, and just hang out, it is month until Homecoming. We are at school, and the last bell just rang for the day (it is Thursday), and Christie walks up to me at my locker.
"Hey has Jacob asked you to homecoming yet?" she asked.
"Um... no? I think we're just assuming that we're going together."
"Ohhhhhhhhhh," she replies.
"Yeah, well want to go to the mall with me in a few to dress shop?!" I ask her, kind of eagerly.
"Sure! Of course! I need mine too haha," she says.
We both burst into laughter.
"Oh I see Jacob! I'm going to go talk to him. See you later Christie!"
"Bye! See you outside by your car?"
"Yep! Bye!"
I walk towards Jacob. He is by his football "bros," that's what he calls them. As I'm nearing them, one of his friends, Jack, sees me and whispers something to Jacob. Jacob turns around, sees me, and turns back around. When I walk up, they are all silent and just smile.
"Um... hey guys," I say kind of awkwardly.
"Hey," they each say one after the other, and then they quickly walk away.
"What is up with them?" I ask Jacob.
"O-O-Oh...," he says stuttering, "it-it's nothing."
"Oh?" I say, kind of confused.
"Hey I gotta go, talk to you later?" he says, and then he quickly scurries off. I watch him walk away, and he heads towards the cheerleading squad.
"Hey ladies," I hear him say to them.
In unison, they all say "Hey Jacob!" A few of them giggle.
What is going on? Is he done with me? Am I not good enough?
I walk by them to leave school, and before I reach them they're whispering, and as I walk by them, they look at me and go silent, then once I past them they start to whisper again. What. Is. Going. On. ?
When I get outside to my car, I see Christie. I walk up to her kind of upset.
"Hello!" Christie says.
"Wait. Summer, what's wrong? Are you ok?" she asks me.
"Christie." I say. I am honestly about to start crying.
"Whoah Whoah Whoah Summer, what's going on? You're about to cry. Let's get into your car.
We get in the car and that is when I start to cry.
"Ch-Ch-Christie," I manage to stutter out, "I think Jacob is either going to break up with me or he is just done with me." I sob even more.
"Wait, how do you know? Did he say anything?" she asks me concerned.
"ewerytimeiraluptohimheackslik-" I start before Christie interrupts me. My words are so slurred now that they sound like one word and I can't even tell what I'm saying.
"Whoah girl," Christie starts, "breathe in," I breathe in, "breath out," I breathe out, "ok now tell me what's going on."
"Every time I walk up to him, he is either talking to the cheerleaders or the football players, and once I get to him, they all go silent and just stare at me as if I was a ghost."
