I wouldn't say this would be a struggle for most Arabs us since most dialects are similar. But I can tell you, it's a huge struggle for me. If I were to speak Algerian Arabic literally no one would understand (I don't really blame them though because I'll admit there are some words which sound nothing like Arabic). This means that I kind of have to know how to speak in another dialect and it's not all that easy. I get easily mixed up between Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian dialects. (I know you might be like 'how could you get them mixed up? They are so different!' well for me they sound pretty much the same). It's so embarrassing when I'm speaking like four different dialects in one sentence!
I'll give you an example on how Algerian Arabic is sooooo different (probably the most different dialect in the Arabic language.)
*Both phrases mean 'How are you?'
Algerian: "وش راكي؟" - Wish raki
Any other dialect: "كيف حالك؟" kaif halik
(I tried to write to show you what it sounds like in English).
Also, I'm sure not only Algerians struggle with this but also Tunisians or Moroccans. In fact, anyone who is not in their country (either in a Muslim country or not) will probable experience this.
