Dear Pen Pal,
My name is Mikasa Ackerman. I'm 13 years old. I have black shoulder-length hair and I like-"Ughhh" the ravenette groaned as she banged her head on the mahogany desk. "What do I write about? I don't know what to write about...." She whined. She stared at the incomplete piece of paper which she had had all summer to complete, yet here she was at the last minute pondering on what to write about, the all to familiar emotion of regret started to simmer inside of her, 'damn I have what? Like half an hour to finish this? Ugh... What should I write about? My life!?!' Mikasa let out an auspicious chuckle at the thought then paused and stared at the paper in a trance of enlightenment. "Wait..." She grabbed the pencil and started writing like wildfire, erasing an editing as she went on. Finally she had finished, she looked at the clock, "Shit! IM LATE!" She grabbed the letter and her backpack and ran off to class.

A breathless and sweaty Mikasa dashed into the eighth grade classroom taking her seat next to her best friend, Sasha Brause, a quirky outgoing brunette with an insatiable appetite. "Look who's late to their first day of eighth grade" she mocked.
"Shut up. I was doing the assignment and lost track of time."
"The assignment? The one we had all summer to do? Seriously Mikasa, it's a miracle that you're a straight A student even when you procrastinate all your assignments."
Mikasa gave her a look, "That's beside the point... Anyway did I miss anything?"
Sasha shook her head, "nah the teacher just introduced herself and you know."
"Ok so she didn't collect the assignments yet?"
"Nah, but hey Mikasa can I read your letter?"
"Hm... Sure can I read yours?" Sasha nodded again and the two teenage girls exchanged letters.
'Dear Pen Pal,
My name is Mikasa Ackerman. I'm 13 years old. I have black shoulder-length hair and dark eyes. I have a complicated past. When i was nine my mother and father were murdered in front of me so I could be sold as a slave in the black market. Luckily someone saved me, a boy in fact to whom I'm forever grateful to. The sad thing is after that moment I never saw him again. He gave me a red scarf, which I cherish and wear every day. One day I hope to encounter him again, just by some random twist of fate. Other than that life has been fairly difficult, moving from group home to group home. Eventually I got tired of that and ran away leaving forever. Now I live with my best friend Sasha in her house and I'm a straight A student. Any-who, I hope to hear back from you and look forward to learning more about you.
Sincerely,
Mikasa Ackerman.' Sasha concluded the letter in thought. "Wow Mikasa this is incredible!"Mikasa laughed, "wish I could say the same for yours, haha it sucks! 'I love food...mmmm I could really go for a ham sandwich right now' hahah same old Sasha."
The teacher appeared at the front of the room, "Alright everyone I will be collecting your summer assignments now so please pass them forward." The girls passed their letters forward with a low sigh.
"I hope I get an A with this assignment."
"Same here, Mikasa"
"Alright well everyone is excused to go to nutrition." Mikasa got up from her chair and exited the classroom with Sasha.
"I want to go to the cafeteria but then again maybe I should go to the store it's such a difficult decision to make..." Sasha's voice trailed off and Mikasa found herself day-dreaming about the boy she had met all those nights ago.
"I wonder how he must be..."
-
The week had passed in a blink of an eye. The teacher stood at the front of the room with a yellow folder, "Everyone I have received your letters from your pen pals! Now when I call your name come up to my desk and receive your letters."
"Hey Mika, who do you think was your pen pal?"
Mikasa looked at the curious brunette as she rested her head on the desk, "how should I know? I just want to get this over with."
"Mikasa Ackerman!" Mikasa got up wearily and walked to the teachers desk. The teacher handed the letter to the emotionless ravenette and smiled, "Mikasa, I encourage you to be open to these sorts of things you never know what kind of friends you could make."
Mikasa nodded, "Yes Mrs. Akari, thank you." She grabbed the letter and quietly sat down, putting the letter aside.
"OI! Mikasa aren't you going to read it?!?!"
"Fine..." Mikasa opened the letter reluctantly and began to read, 'My name... Is Eren Jaegar. I have brown hair and green eyes. I lost my mom to cancer when i was 11 and my dad fell into a state of depression after that and it basically feels like he isn't even here. I became the adult and decided I had to take care of him. I'm failing my classes because I have to be the breadwinner in my family. I don't really mind though, i've always felt the need to protect people, even when I was nine years old. In fact, I saved a girl who was kidnapped by three horrendous people one day. I don't remember her name or what she looks like, but I do remember I gave her my wine-red scarf. I remember the sad look on her face when she was taken by social services, but as much as I wanted to I couldn't do anything about it. My family could barely afford enough to eat and we were just making ends meet. Anyway I would like us to become friends, if you want. I really don't care that much.
Sincerely,
Eren Jaeger.' Mikasa stared at the letter in shock for a minute or two. An overwhelming mix of emotions overcame her, fear, excitement, sadness, nostalgia. "It's him," she muttered quietly,"SASHA IT'S HIM!" Mikasa's eyes became clouded with tears as she looked at her best friend who seemed extremely confused."Eh? Wait what are you talking about Mikasa?"
"I FOUND HIM.... I found the guy who saved me... And I'm going to meet him again..." Mikasa wiped her eyes repeatedly trying to stop the tears from overflowing.
"Mikasa what are you talking about? Are you sure?" Sasha asked suspiciously.
"Yes... Sasha, I'm going to meet him... I'm going to meet Eren Jaegar..."
