"I'm so sorry Jug!" I crash into his chest as he lies down on the old hospital bed. He's alive. For now. The doctors said he might not last so long. They gave him hundreds of meds, just to warm him up; but as I touch his hands, they still feel like ice. I swallow hard as tears swarm my face. "You did all of this protecting me," I mumble near his face, hoping he might just hear me, "Your stuck like this because of me!"

Maybe all of this was my fault and I should be in this position! I should be in his situation! This is all because of me!

"B?" Ronnie knocks on the door, of the room. I nod slightly and she walks over to me, taking the chair beside mine. "He'll be fine, you know?"
"No! No I don't know! And neither do you!"
"Woah, B! I'm only trying to help!"
"I know, I'm sorry, V," I apologise realising I had snapped.
"I know, it's fine," she places her hand on mine, "Your going through a lot." Her eyes lock with mine, and tears begin to well up.
"V, it's okay," I reassure her, "it's not your fault! It's mine."
"Don't you dare say that! Don't you dare blame yourself for this!" Her hand gestures towards Jugs body on the bed.
"But it is! It is my fault! All of this happened because he was protecting me!"
"That was his decision! Not yours! He decided to do that and this is where it got him!"
"Well I'm sorry if I feel responsible for leading an entire gang to kill him! I'm sorry if I made Reggie put him in a coma! I'm sorry if I still love him!" My eyes grow stern and stare her down.
"Fine, Betty! You might think that way, but I think you forget that he moved on! He moves away from you because of this, your a bombshell Betty!" She turns to walk away and out the door but I follow her.
"V, wait! I'm sorry! I love you too!" She stops in her tracks. Of course I love her, she's my best friend.
"What?"
"Your my best friend, V, you've been with me through everything!" She turns and walks towards me, her eyes fighting back tears.
"Don't you ever say that to me again!" She snaps before walking away, wiping the tears from her eyes.

Was it something I said? What the hell, V?

Suddenly, a sharp noise smashed in the background. Swiftly, I spin around to see-

"Jug?!"

J U G H E A D J O N E S

"Jug?"
"Betty!"
So happy to see her, I run towards her in delight. She stands still in the same spot, just with her body rotated slightly. She... She looks different. Maybe she's changed her hair? Maybe she's wearing something different? Maybe she's put on weight? Either way, she looks beautiful.

I fling my arms around her, it takes her a while to notice before she grasps my back with her trembling hands. "I missed you," I whisper softly into her ear.
"I missed you too," slowly her tears begin to drown the clothes on my shoulder as we stand in the corridor, not letting go of each other. When we finally pull away, it strikes me in the head, like a bullet.
"Where's Toni?" I ask sharply.
"She's down in that room," Betty points to the room next to the one I walked out of and follows me as I speed towards the door. She sits upright in the bed, reading the book I lent to her.
"Jug?" She tries to jump up, quickly but I Stop her.
"It's fine! Don't get up!" Betty stays at the doorway, leaning against the frame.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine! Are you?"
"Yes Jughead, I'm fine!" Her eyes widen as she looks at me, leaning at the edge of the bed. "I was worried about you! Never mind me."
"I'm fine Toni!"
"I know that doesn't mean fine, Jughead! I know you remember?"
"Toni, I'm okay," I say slowly, "I'm alive and well and I'm okay!"
"What ever you say," She smiles at me, "fine!" I laugh with her for a moment before turning to Betty, staring blankly at the floor.
"Betty," I shout her over, "come here!" She hesitates before moving next to me, reluctantly and I swing my hand around her waist, pulling her closer. I kiss the top of her head and turn to Toni, smiling at the two of us. "I'd like you to meet my girlfriend, Toni. This is Betty!"
"Hi Betty!" Toni smiles. I thought it would be best for them to start fresh. Betty, confused, switches her head between me and Toni. I lean down a little and whisper into her ear:
"Just go with it."
"Hi Toni!" She smiles, after I give her advice.
"Look Betty," Toni begins, "I know your confused but I don't want us to think of each other as rivals, or anything! It's best to just start new. Jughead loves you, and your lucky to have him. I just want you to know I will support you and him through everything! He's my best friend," her smile grows bigger and she turns to me. I smirk a little back and Betty still looks at me confused.
"New slate, Bett," I tell her, "you never know, we might not be a trio anymore Toni!" We laugh and Betty still stands there confused.
"But there's only two of y-" she begins before Sweet Pea comes into the room too, grabbing me from behind and pulling me back.
"Dude," I say laughing and pushing him away from me, "why would you do that?" He knows I'm joking as I push him backwards.
"I missed you, man," Sweet Pea holds his hand out as we hug for a moment.
"Missed you too," everywhere around us is just smiles. I've never seen people so happy in my life, "so how have you been coping? Anything big?"
"Well there's a few things you might need to sort out," He laughs nervously.
"What have you done?" I laugh.
"Guess you'll find out when every other gang in Riverdale comes after us!"
"Can't be as bad as what we've been through already, can it Dude?"
"Guess not?" The girls continue to talk to each other and me and Sweet Pea return to our own convocation. "So what's next, man?" He asks me.
"Simple, isn't it? I'm getting back at them!"
"What's that supposed to mean?" His face falls suddenly serious.
"I'm going after them, dude! The people who kept me and Toni in there. They're dead!"
"Woah! Jug, don't do anything rational!"
"Oh I'm not! I'm planning this thing!" I smirk as Sweet Pea stays completely silent, just nodding.

I'm not letting them hold me hostage and get away with it. Sorry boys, it doesn't work like that...
