Officer Logan Snow's POV
"I don't think Jane Parker should be a suspect," Sanders told me as she closed the file in her hands, placing it on my desk.
We had visited Bill Parker and Mariya Bluestein the previous day. Obviously, we'd discovered a great deal of useful information but at that moment I had failed to understand why my partner wanted to rule out Mrs. Parker as a suspect. Her motives were clearly enough to drive her to kill.
"Why?" I asked my partner who had sat across from me.
"Because, even if her claim of being at the coffee shop that morning turned out to be a lie, I highly doubt she was the one who bludgeoned Marjorie to death. That would require some sort of physical strength."
"This brings us back to the drawing board. Literally,." I said looking at the board I had in my office.
The board had pictures of potential suspects, close friends, family and criminals that could have been connect to the murders.
I watched my partner stand up and walk over to the board taking down two photos.
"According to Parker and Mariya, Mr. and Mrs. Bluestein should be off the board. Both of them were suspects but they had strong alibis," She explained before I could even question what she had done.
That makes sense.
"Anyway, Hail's phone has nothing useful on it. Just one call to Parker that he explained what was said," I said.
"I feel like Mariya's parents were used as pawns. Whoever was committing these crimes knew what was going on. That Mr. Bluestein had broken out of prison and was living in a motel that Hail paid for. Besides, Mr. Bluestein did say he made Hail believe that his wife was after the both of them. Whoever killed Hail knew everything about Mariya's family so the situation was used to cover up their tracks."
Everything my partner said sounded so right. The only problem was, we had no face or name to the killer. Their tracks had been covered up so well that I had doubts we would ever crack the case.
Sanders was still standing near the board carefully examining each and every name.
"I think we should take a look at Mr. Parker. He probably couldn't have murdered his own daughter but maybe he did murder his mistress," I suggested.
I swear Detective Sanders would have broken her neck at how fast she turned her head to face me.
"Yes. Yes. Good idea."
That was the first nice thing she had said to me during working hours since we got to Gammery Town.
"I also wanted to ask, who is paying us to work on this case again?"
"We aren't supposed to know but the boss told me it's someone from this town who goes by the name Mark S. Connor."
"Mark Connor?" I asked stroking my chin.
"Yeah. I thought it was weird that someone from the town is paying us but apparently he and our boss are friends. He also told me that the head of officers here is not supposed to be involved in our work or interviews. He thinks something shady is going on in this place."
Before long, Sanders took her file from my desk and walked back to her office leaving me behind as I phoned Mr. Parker calling him in for an interview.
********
"Hello Mr. Parker. Welcome. Please have a seat," I told him.
"Thank you," he said shortly as he took a seat across me.
