You could be the corpse and I could be the killer. If I could be the devil, you could be the sinner. You could be the drugs and I could be the dealer. Everything you said is like music to my ears.

CHAPTER FIVE - SARCASM

D E X T E R

Dexter had always been an early riser. Debra, however, was not. When the brunette got up the next morning and saw her younger sister still fast asleep, she decided to just let her rest. The detective had a hard time the day before in the city and she deserved a good night's rest.

Rick came out of his tent a while later and made his way over to where Glenn was standing by the red car. Dexter was having a slightly pleasant conversation with the pizza deliverer for the first time since she had met him. It wasn't often that she joked around with anyone.

"Look at 'em. Vultures." Glenn addressed, nodding at the men who were taking away parts of the car. "Yeah, go on, strip it clean."

"Generators need every drop of fuel they can get." Dale replied, walking passed with a tank full of gas and patting Glenn on the shoulder. "Got no power without it. Sorry, Glenn."

"Thought I'd get to drive it at least a few more days." The boy sulked with his arms crossed.

"Maybe we'll get to steal another one someday." Rick optimistically reassured.

"Is Officer Friendly saying it's alright to steal?" Dexter teased with a fake smile from her seat on a hood of a nearby car.

"Maybe." Rick grinned, flashing a small smile in her direction before walking off.

"So the blood girl does have a sense of humour!" Glenn gasped, leaning on the hood next to her.

"Only when I want to have one."

Shane came speeding down the path in his jeep, pulling to a stop near everyone who were doing their individual tasks. The sound of the loud wheels on the gravel must have woke Debra up as she came out of the tent rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"What's going on?" She questioned, patting down her greasy auburn hair and tying it up so that it stayed out of her face.

Shane opened the Jeep's door, "Water's here, y'all. Just a reminder to boil before use."

They all gathered the canisters of water from the boot and put them where they could boil them later. The sound of children screaming caused Dexter to drop her canister and run in the direction of the screaming, simultaniously pulling out a large surgical knife on the way over.

The children ran to their parents as Dexter and the men went into the bushes and found a lone walker crouched down over a dead dear and tearing it apart. Dexter held up her knife as it turned around and lunged towards the gathering of people with a loud growl. Rick was the first to take action and hit it with his blunt weapon, the others joining in soon after. When it was on the ground, Dale swooped it and chopped the walker's head off with his axe.
