"Did you miss me?"
"Miss you? You're a jerk, you didn't even say goodbye."

Aspen and Dan were best friends from birth until they were 8. And then Dan moved away, no goodbye, no contact, just gone. Without a trace.
Six years later...
"So, you had fun last night?" Dan asks me, from across the breakfast table.
"For fucks sake, Dan. Not in front of us, or while people are eating." Alfie laughs from a few seats away.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"Well, Joe told us you two had some... alone time, yesterday. Uhm, god that got awkward fast." Alfie scratches his neck, clearly not wanting to explain any further.
"I was actually asking about the swimming..." Dan and I go bright red at the same time.
"Joe, you dicksplash. Why would you tell people something you know isn't true?" I spit out at him, making eye contact with him and making him squirm. Joe just gets up and walks away.
"Nothing like that happened, I can assure you" Dan chuckles awkwardly and everyone sighs with relief.
"IT ALMOST DID THOUGH, IF I HADN'T-" Joe yells from the stairs. How any of us heard him, I have no idea.
"Oh my god, I don't even want to know." Phil giggles from next to Dan.
"And here I am, thinking I was the queen of salt." I laugh, trying to put whatever that was behind us.
"Honestly, though, nothing happened." Dan clarified for everyone.
"It's fine, you guys are a couple now, and sometimes this stuff just-" Alfie laughs hysterically, trying to make you feel better and miserably failing.
"Dude, no one wants to hear it." I try not to laugh, but struggle.
"Anyways! What are we going to do today?" Zoe giggles and changes the subject. I'm pretty sure everyone mentally thanked her.
"We could go to the beach!" I suggest quickly. "It's an amazing day, and we haven't been yet?"
"Yeah! We could explore first? Then a bit later go, how does that sound?" Louise adds.
"Yeah! If we go shopping, come back with the bags and get changed and then go out, that would be perfect!" Zoe squeals, clearly excited.
We all finish breakfast and go upstairs to get changed, I'm proud of my outfit so I post in on instagram:
