we arrived at this, well, what seemed like a convention center. me, my father, and jonathan stepped out of the horse carriage and made our way inside. it was a small building with a spacious table and kitchen, and i had never seen it before. as i walked in, it seemed as though everyone was there. the four families were sitting down and waiting patiently, while mrs. Ainsworth & Landcaster were finishing up lunch.

i examined everyone who sat at the table. my eyes rolled across all of the faces, until i got to the last one. his facial structure and dimples were.. woah. he was laughing and talking with the others when my gaze was glued to him. i stood frozen, only to find myself admiring his sweet smile.

as everyone started to realize we had arrived, i was the first person he took a look at. his eyes went from the bottom of my dress, and up to my eyes. i imagine i was red as a tomato, given the fact i've been staring at him for five minutes straight. as he met my gaze, i noticed that he had deep, blue & grey eyes. he had dark chocolate curly hair, which complemented him well.

our stare must've lasted a while, or so it seemed. right as i was about to introduce myself to him, my brother tugged on my dress.

"hey there, googley eyes. you're staring."

i felt myself turn even more red.

"oh.. um..." i cleared my throat.

the boy stood up out of his chair and walked over to me, and i could feel that his gaze never fell with mine.

"hello, there, miss. my name is Gilbert Blythe, and i'm here with my father. it's a pleasure to meet you."

he smiled an innocent smile and held out his hand, signaling for me to shake it. as i shook his hand, our eyes connected once more. i was much closer to him, and i was able to examine his features more.

wow. i thought to myself.
what a name he had.
my lord.. what a face & body he had.

"hello. my name is y/n y/l/n, it's a pleasure as well. i'm here with my father, and my brother Jonathan." i stated.

our gaze broke as mrs. Ainsworth and mrs. Landcaster brought out the meal. we let go of each other's hands, and he showed me to where i sat. i enjoyed myself and met everyone at the lunch table. i noticed.. gilbert didn't have a mother..?

sorrow and pain washes over me. it reminds me of my own mother..

enough. i would rather not think about that at the moment. but there is a good side to it.. now me and gilbert have something to talk about, and maybe even bond over.

as lunch finished up, we said our goodbyes. everyone headed outside, and i left to use the restroom quickly. as i came around the corner, i ran right into someone. i was in a hurry, so i slammed into the body quite harshly. i fell down onto my backside, and it made a loud thump.

"oh, goodness gracious. i'm ever so sorry miss..."

"you're just well sir. i apologize for being in such a hurry." i say as i rub my head.

i didn't see the man very well, my mind and vision blurred by the hard 'thump' of the ground. a hand appeared in my sight, and i regained vision quickly. i took it, and the man pulled me up quickly. i straightened myself up, and looked up at him. to my surprise, it was gilbert.

"oh, gilbert. i'm very sorry, i didn't know it was
you who i ran into." i say shakily.

i feel a hand being placed on my shoulder.

"you are very forgiven, y/n."
he said it with a hint of sarcasm, with a slight smirk coming from his lips. it made me giggle, and i smiled at him.

we stared. i snapped out of it and regained conscience.
"well, i suppose i should get going now."

i turned away, and started walking.

"but, i wanted to ask you something before you leave.." gilbert pleaded.

i turn back to face him. my curiously flushes, and comes bursting out of my lips was,
"and what is that question, mr. blythe?"

"would you like to meet out in my working field tomorrow morning? i'd like to show you around the neighborhood. you know, give you a little tour. since you're new to this place.." he paused, his expression turning from felicity to pure gloom.

"it's really a beautiful place once you've lived here a long time. i've been here my whole life, of course." he speaks slowly and softly. "we were a large family for a while.. and i'm the last." he sighed. "the only."

i felt my eyes burn with tears, and i quickly blinked them away. i felt my heart drop, and the anxiety rose in my chest.

"i'm very sorry to hear that, gilbert. i really am. my mother passed away eight years ago.. i miss her just as much as i imagine you miss your family." i said genuinely.

he looked up at me, and i saw the war in his eyes. the battle of hatred towards the world and the sorrow trying to beat down on him. he just stood there, looking at me. i stared back, frozen.

"i'll see you later, y/n."
he said it, and i heard the rise in his voice, indicating he was starting to cry.

and like that, he was out of sight.
