"so you're telling me you, aaliyah, and val have had a group chat keeping tabs on me and shawn?"
"well, when you say it like that it sounds weird. it's just some light meddling. you know, finding ways to push you two together. but quite honestly, we didn't have to do as much as we thought," she says as she finishes eating her rice crispy. "like, we all thought it'd take all of break to get you guys to call it official. so i'm excited now we can do double dates and stuff when nat gets back!"
"you guys are so—i don't even know."
"ugh, i know! christmas miracles. anyways, val is next. has she mentioned anyone lately?"
i playfully roll my eyes as my younger sister is practically bouncing where she sat on the couch. "okay, slow your roll, cupid. have you not had enough?" i paused in thought. "but on second thought, i think still she does have a thing for her wall neighbor at the dorm."
"beautiful, go on."

"can one of you please change the song?" aaliyah asks from the backseat. i look over to shawn as i reach for his phone to make sure it was alright. he nods, giving me a smile before quickly looking back at the road.
it took me a second after skipping the next few songs, trying to find one i'm in the mood for before i realized his background on his phone; i let the next random song play.
"aw, you made that picture of us with me looking gross as your background? do you have a little crush on me or something?" i asked smugly.
he takes one of his hands off the wheel to reach over to hold mine. "in your dreams, mei."
i felt my cheeks redden once he used my family nickname.
"aw, you're blushing," he mimics me, after stealing a glance at me. "do you have a little crush on me?"
"uh, this time in your dreams, mendes," i replied as i placed my other hand on our already intertwined ones and stroked the back of his with my thumb.
"okay, hetties, we may have brought you two together but we've had enough back here! are we there yet?" cam groans.
"yes, actually!" shawn responds excitedly before it dawns on him, "i need to find a spot to park first."

the four of us stopped at the park to check out the christmas decorations as we waited for the drive-through lights display to start. we've all been taking cute pictures, or trying to at least since shawn's his usual pest self.
"shawn, it's either you want to be in the pic or you don't!" aaliyah yells at him as he had been jumping in and out of frame for the past minute.
aaliyah sighs as she hands me my phone. "i tried taking multiple ones, but doofus there is in like... all of them."

we continued to walk around until the sun began to set which meant the lights display would be starting soon.
i was about to mention it to shawn until he suddenly stops in his tracks and i catch myself from running into him this time. "what's wrong?"
shawn grins down at me and points out, "there's a mistletoe."
i look up and of course there is. "you're kidding."
"come on, it's like—against christmas rules to not kiss when you're under a mistletoe," shawn says dramatically and proceeds to lean down facing to the side so i was mostly facing his cheek.. "at least?"
i childishly stick my tongue at him before giving in with a "fine". i was about to give him a kiss before i noticed his phone out and instead gave him an awkward peck under his cheek.
"mills!"
"what?" i grab his phone from him to see the photo he snuck. "i think it actually describes us pretty well, don't you think?"
looking at the photo and back up at his warm brown eyes. i locked his phone and shoved it in my jacket pocket.
"here." i place my hand on his cheek before leaning in and feeling his soft lips on my own once again. even with the extra layer of cheesiness, my heart was pounding ridiculously. this was definitely more than a peck. i slowly pulled away to take a necessary jab at him, "is that better?"
"much," he whispers before leaning down again and giving me another deep kiss.
after a moment, we both pulled away and i began to hide my face in his scarf as i remembered we were in public and being that annoying couple.
"you don't think we're moving too fast, do you?" i quietly asked him, looking at face yet shying away from meeting his eyes.
he kisses my forehead before replying, "i kind of like to think of this as making up for lost time, but do you?"
"first of all, that was cheesy and gross. and second, i don't know, i was just curious. i guess i kind of like the pace we're going at... it feels like... a dream."
"you love me being cheesy and gross. and it must be a dream come true. now come on, we have a lights show to see."
