we were all gathered at shawn's condo for a mini new year's eve party so to speak. by we, i mainly just mean both of our closest friends. my sister's here too, which i argued against, but eventually was convinced to bring her since it's probably better that if she drinks, i can keep an eye on her. val got back a few days ago and is now mingling amongst everyone. seeing everyone laughing together makes my heart warm.
shawn and i were sitting on the couch watching the new york ball drop for the countdown. we originally planned on going down into toronto to watch the fireworks display but decided to stay inside, nice and warm instead. which, frankly, i'm not complaining about considering it's been pouring rain on and off all evening and shawn's place already has such a gorgeous view.
"we've been with each other all day," i reply to shawn as i was on laying on my back with my legs across his lap as we watched some of the performances. shawn pealed his eyes from the screen and looks at me.
i feel him squeeze my hands a few times before i set my glass of champagne on the table and took my eyes off the screen to meet his with furrowed brows. "what's wrong?"
"nothing," he whispers, wrapping his arms around me to scoot my body closer to him. i feel my cheeks flush as we were now close enough for me to lay my head on his shoulders. "i just love this."
twenty seconds to midnight.
i feel shawn cup my cheek and lifts my head to look at him. his eyes glancing from mine to my lips. as the final countdown began, i could hear everyone shuffling into the living room, but it just felt like it were just shawn and me.

he tucks the loose hair slightly covering my face.
four.
his thumb gently grazes my bottom lip.
three.
i smile as i touched his arm and began to lean in.
two.
i allowed my eyelids to fall.
one.
the sound of party poppers and squeakers filled my ears as i felt shawn's soft lips on mine.
