"ma, we're out of milk so i'm going to run to the store, do you need anything?" i asked as i peeked my head into her room.

"all i can think of is bread, but if there's anything else, i think there should be a list on the kitchen counter."

"it was just bread on the list. is that all?"

"yup, that should be it then. do you need any money?"

"nah, i got it. i'll be back in a minute. love you!" she blows me a kiss and a 'love you' back before i pull my head out of her room and into my sister's.

"hey doofus, do you need anything from the store?" i felt a soft pillow hit my face. "okay, sorry. do you need anything from the store?" i repeat.

"no," she responds while getting off her bed. "but i wanna come with, i'm bored."

"fine. hurry up, i'm leaving as soon as the car warms up."

* * *

"cameron! you literally said you didn't need anything," i exclaim as she sneaks another bag of hot cheetos into the basket.

"right. in that moment of time i didn't but i'm already here and at this moment of time, i want more hot cheetos."

"do you have more hot cheetos money?"

cameron scoffs as she takes the bag out of the basket and puts it back on the shelf.

"that's what i thought."

"awh, sisterly love." i hear from behind us, causing me to jump a little. who th—

i made eye contact with the same tall brunette as soon as i turn around. "are you following me now, mendes?"

"i could ask you the same question." he winks at me, then waves at my sister. "hey cameron!"

i stuck my tongue out pretending to fake gag. "you wish."

"hey shawn," she waves back. "aaliyah didn't say you were coming back so early."

"yeah, i kept it a surprise!" he grins.

i nod as i grab cameron's hand. "right, well, we gotta go actually. promised my mom we'd only be a minute."

"wait, mills!" shawn steps forward before i could even get a good distance between us.

"hm?"

"can i get your number? so we can hang out sometime?"

"you don't have my number anymore? i guess that explains a lot." shawn scrunches his face as i thought i had mummer the last part quiet enough.

he quickly unlocks his phone with his thumbprint. "please?"

"god, this is so sad to watch—here." cameron takes his phone, quickly types on it, and hands it back to him. shawn looks at it and smiles, mouthing an 'i owe you' to her. "yeah, it's whatever. alright, miss killjoy let's go then. see you later, shawn!" she smiles as she begins to drag me off with her this time.

"what was that!" i hit her arm. "you just gave him my number!"

"yeah, i was there. that's exactly what just happened," she says in an obvious tone. "besides, mei. i know you still miss him. also don't think i didn't see his jeep in the driveway last night. you still haven't even told me a single thing about that so serves you right."

i groan as we walked towards the self-checkout. "fine, i'll explain in the car."

* * *

"there. see, nothing happened." i took a deep breath after explaining everything that happened yesterday to cameron. we were currently sitting in the parking lot with the heater on blast.

cameron looks at me intently. "no matter how much you wanna deny it, and i know you do, you still have feelings for him, huh?"

         "don't be ridiculous."

"you are. you said so yourself, you guys bounced right back into things, you even let him call you mills."

"that doesn't mean anything. i'm just too nice to tell him to not to."

"sure. or you, i don't know... don't yell at me... like it." she grins as i felt my cheeks heat a little. "see you're getting pink."

"no, it's just getting too warm in here," i said as i turned down the heater. "even if i did—it's not like we'll be back to how we were." i sighed.

"well, not with that attitude you guys won't. besides why not?"

"you know how i felt. and if it hadn't been for you and val, i probably still would be moping over that dumb boy." i begin to fiddle with my ring finger, even without a ring on. "but i guess if he hadn't been so distant, val and i wouldn't be so close now."

"you're babbling and didn't fully answer my question. and if you texted val right now, she'd tell you exactly what i'm about to tell you." she grabs my face with both her hands. "talk to him. give him a chance."

i knock her hands off. "cam, you're my sister! you're like obligated to be on my side here!"

"what side?" she exclaims. "i'm just saying!"

i rolled my eyes and pulled out of the parking lot. "and i'm just saying. how does a so called best friend just completely not talk to you for months... especially when you thought not only were you developing feelings for this so called best friend, but that it was being reciprocated. and then suddenly poof! he's back and ugh!"

i turn my head for second to glance at cam for a response, only to find her typing away on her phone.

"cam, you're not even listening now."

"yes i am! just had some business to deal with."

          "business?"

"business. that's none of yours," she says as she locks her phone before shooting me a smile. "now go on."
