Adam and I ran as fast as we could down the stairs as soon as we heard my mother's loud scream. "Mom!" I shouted, looking around the living room for her. "She's over there!" Adam pointed towards the kitchen and jumped off the stairs, skipping at least four large steps. Fearfully, I glance towards the living room couch and see the doll sitting there like normal. The life-less glass eyes were staring straight at no particular object, the Cheshire cat smile was gone, and thankfully...It was not breathing anymore.

As I noticed the sudden changes in the doll, I continued to stare at it, making sure the features didn't suddenly change back.

"I'm fine." My mother stands up from being on the kitchen floor and wipes her pants off. "I just slipped over some water that's all. It hurt for a second and I yellled in pain." She adds. Oh crap, I never got to finish the dishes due to the 'incident'.

I must have spilled a little water on the ground when I freaked out. "Sorry mom, I must have accidently spilled some water when I was doing the dishes." I sighed and grabbed a towel to clean up the mess. I felt really bad about being careless.

"It's fine, hun. Don't beat yourself up about it." She gives me a small smile and helps me finish cleaning up. "Why don't you get to bed, Jacqueline. It's been a long day." My mom suggests and starts turning off the lights to the kitchen.

"Alright." I reply and look towards the front door and then to the back door to make sure they are locked. It has always been a habbit of mine to make sure everything is locked, especially at night.

Once I notice that both doors are locked, I start to make my way upstairs until I see Adam standing in front of the doll. "What are you doing?" I ask. I thought he would have gone back to sleep by now. "I'm just looking to see if there is anything suspicious about this doll." He replies as he is still standing there staring at it, examining the doll's features. "...Oh." Was all I managed to say. I thought he didn't believe me?

"Ya know Jay...you really scared me a while ago.." He looks to me, the dim light from the living room shadows his face. "Sorry. I-I saw it though, Adam. I wouldn't joke about something like that. You have to believe me." I pleaded once again.

"It's just hard to imagine that a toy doll that is meant for a little girl's enjoyment is doing all those things you said earlier." Adam chuckles and pokes the doll on the forehead.

"Don't touch it!" I gasp. He needs to get away from that thing. Adam looks back to me and his laughter instantly fades "You really are spooked by this thing aren't you?" He questions and starts to step away from the doll.

"Yeah! I'm telling you it's evil." I continue to walk up the stairs and my brother follows behind. "Well, I haven't seen the doll do anything evil or even move Jay." He says and lazily walks to his messy room. "So.." He continues. I stand in the doorway of my room and wait for him to say what I think he is going to say.

"...I believe you, Jay."

That was exactly the opposite of what I thought he was going to say. I was expecting him to just give me a lecture of how I need to stop freaking out about the doll, and slam his door, but I guess not.

"Wait what!" I ask, or more like yell. "Your my twin, i'm always gonna have your back sis." He leans against his doorway. "Yeah, it's kind of hard to wrap my head around the thought of an 'evil doll' at first. But if you say that it is breathing and such, and all that stuff happened. Then I'll believe you." He smiles, showing his dimples.

I run up to him and give him a hug. It felt so good to hear that he had my back. I know we have our usual ups- and- downs but at the end of the day, we are twins and we are going to be there for each other.

"Thank you." I say and he puts his large hand on top of my head and messes up my hair. "Go to sleep nugget face." He yawns. "Ew, what kind of name is 'nugget face'?" I make a disqusted face at him and walk back to my room. "It's because you have the face of a chicken nugget." He busts out laughing at the stupid name.

"And your the loser who laughs at his own jokes." I comment and close the room to my door. "That was a low blow." I hear him say from the other side of the door. What a fool.

----

I have been laying in bed for hours wide awake. The events from today keep playing out through my mind, especially the doll. The Cheshire cat grin, the way it was breathing, the way it was looking at me. It scared me to no end but what was worse was knowing that the horrid thing was just downstairs.

I turn towards my nightstand by my bed and grab my phone off of the charger. I check the time and groan when I see that it is 5:47 in the morning. I place my phone back on the nightstand and pull the covers over me. I had already started the new day off with no sleep. I knew It was going to be another long day.
