Watching the Reapings was probably one of the worst things I've ever done in my life. Well, that and actually getting reaped, of course. We were in a train headed towards the Capitol and our representer, Micha wanted us to watch all of the Reapings in order to see who we were up against. It started with District 12 and a brother and sister were reaped. They both had dark brown hair and wide brown eyes. Bianca and Nico were their names. Carlton, our Victor, shook his head.

"That's terrible," he whispered. Carlton came from a long line of Reaped family members. His mother was a victor and his sister had made it to being the 2nd to last person alive in her games. He had won six years ago at the age of 18.

"Look at it this way," Octavian started, rubbing the blonde hair out of his face, "They're District 12. They won't be alive for long. Less suffering for them." I punched him in the shoulder and rolled my eyes.

"People's lives aren't something to joke about," I told him. Octavian laughed a nasty laugh.

"Then what do you call this?" he asked motioning to the train car around us. "We're in the middle of one. A very big one at that." I turned my attention back to the screen because he had a valid point. Our lives were just jokes to the Capitol people.

Next up was District 11. The girl reaped had darker skin and looked no older then 14. Her name was Hazel. The boy had lighter skin and curly hair like the girl. His name was Grover and he was older, maybe 16, but he looked scared and frail. I remembered that most of District 11 was starving and concluded that they would be one of the firsts to go.

Next was Distcrict 10. A girl with black hair and fierce eyes was reaped. Clarisse. I could see how fit she was through the screen. She was going to be good. The boy, Frank, was a lot bigger than her, but had a baby face. He looked like a huge teddy bear. I laughed at the idea of that.

In District 9, a girl with pretty black hair and blue eyes was reaped. She was absolutely beautiful. The boy was a darker skinned muscular boy who looked angry. The girl was crying and hugging on the boy and that was when I realized that they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Their names were Charlie and Silena.

District 8's reaping wasn't nearly as dramatic. A boy named Connor and a girl named Juniper were picked. They both seemed to be in a state of shock. I couldn't blame them.

District 7 had both really competitive looking tributes. Zoe and Chris. They looked scary and fast. I gulped.

Then there was my reaping and I saw my red hair and green eyes and Octavian's blonde hair and blue ones. At our school, we always had avoided each other. People said it was because we were very similar in the 'we thought we knew everything' aspect of things. It wasn't my fault that that was true.

District 5 was a very entertaining Reaping, well, as entertaining as a Reaping can get. Calypso, the girl, was absolutely beautiful. Almost like Silena's beauty but hers was different. Older. Calypso was around 18 while Silena was 15. But she wasn't the one who was funny. Leo, was the real entertainer. He was skinny and frail and tanned and clumsy. Walking up the stage, he tripped twice and dropped his tool belt, which spilled out all of its contents on the platform. I actually laughed out loud while Octavian frowned.

"Dimwit," he muttered.

From District 4 were two black haired kids. Percy and Thalia. They both looked fit and terrifying. The girl had electric dark blue eyes and the boy had enticing green ones. They could have been cousins.

District 3 had two blondes. Annabeth and Luke. Annabeth was just as tall as Luke and the both of them were very lean. Luke had blue eyes filled with craze and anger while Annabeth had gray ones filled with knowledge and control. They would make an interesting team.

District 2 wasn't very interesting this year. A lanky boy named Travis was picked. He looked a lot like the Connor boy from District 8. It was really unnerving how similar they looked. The girl, Reyna, was a little more impressive. She had tanned skin similar to Leo's and curly black hair. She had on a poker face but her eyes were filled with emotion.

District 1, the last district, had the perfect tributes, which made sense it being District 1 and all. The boy looked like some sort of superhero. He had really blonde hair like Octavian and electric blue eyes. They weren't nearly as close to the blue of Thalia's eyes but they still gave me that feeling inside my stomach to stay away from them. The girl, Piper, was beautiful in every sense. She put Silena and Calypso up for their money. She had brown skin and multi colored eyes. Her hair was in a weird style and she was wearing non District 1 clothes, but despite all of that, she still was perfect.

After the video, I turned towards Carlton. He lowly whistled and shook his head.

"We have a lot of work to do."

Leo

Not only had I been reaped and tripped up the stairs, but I also managed to spill drink all over Calypso and leak machine oil all over her too. Today was not my day. I tried to apologize to Calypso, not really caring about her feelings. I just figured that I did not need to make any more enemies going into the games. She just turned away with a huff and ran to her room.

Brian, our representer, laughed at me.

"Real smooth, Leo," he said. I rolled my eyes and started digging in my tool belt. My hands immediately set to work. "What're you building?" he asked me. I looked down at my hands and shrugged.

"Right now it's just a piece of mangled metal. But give me a couple of minutes and it'll be something," I told him. Joshua, our victor, walked in dragging Calypso by the arm. Most of the machine oil was out of her hair but it was still on her white dress. "Calypso, I'm really sorry about-" I started. She immediately cut me off.

"Shut up, Leo!" she screamed. I felt the blood starting to pulse in my ears.

"You know what, Calypso. Fuck you," I told her and stood up, pushing my way through her and Joshua. I heard Joshua and Brian calling after me but I just kept running to my room. I slammed the door shut and locked it. My back on the door, I slid down, trying to contain my tears. My heart was beating out of my chest and my ears were ringing. It was starting to hit me. I'd been reaped. I was going into the Hunger Games with 23 other children to get slaughtered. I was going to die. And the tears started flowing.

"What do I do?" I started muttering. "Mamá, ¿qué hago?" I sniffed and looked at the metal in my hand. I started to see its formation. My mother. I was building my mother. She had big brown buttons for eyes and black nails as hair. She had a weird bent in smile and I could almost hear her calling me in from the street to dinner. I laughed at the absurdity of the moment. I was crying over a dead parent and the inevitable. I was weak.

I threw the piece of metal to the other side of the room. It made a dent in the wall and fell to the floor.

"You're dead," I kept telling myself. "You're not going to help me. You can't help me. " I put my head in my knees and started singing to myself the lullaby she once sung to me. "Por la mañana, por la mañana. Todo va a estar bien. Por la mañana, por la mañana. El sol va a brillar."

Only this time, everything wouldn't.

-Mamá, ¿qué hago? Mom, what do I do?

-Por la mañana, por la mañana. Todo va a estar bien. Por la mañana, por la mañana. El sol va a brillar. In the morning, in the morning. Everything's going to be alright. In the morning, in the morning. The sun is going to shine.
