Once upon a time, there lived a Prince who ruled over the kingdom of Alicante.
He lived alone in the castle, with only his servants and staff to keep him company. Though he didn't exactly treat them the nicest way he could've done.
He was a selfish man. He took all he had for granted and never gave anything else in return. He had no love in his heart and any love that he was given, he shunned away.
One night, he held a ball for the most prestigious men and women of Alicante; he wasn't very particular when it came to the gender of his lovers.
Just as the night was drawing to a close, a woman appeared at the door step. She was a ragged old woman who was seeking shelter from the storm that was raging outside in the night. She offered the Prince a single rose in payment for staying the night.
At the woman's old looks, the Prince laughed and sent her away, not wishing for someone that ugly to stay in his castle. He required someone much more beautiful to satisfy him.
Before his eyes, the old woman transformed into a mystical enchantress. Taken aback by her beauty, the Prince begged for mercy and told her she could stay for as long as she wanted and could take whatever she wanted.
The enchantress saw through his facade and threw the rose down on the ground in front of him. She told the Prince that unless he could find love and be loved in returned before the last petal of the rose fell, the curse would stay forever.
The enchantress waved her hands down and set a spell down on the castle.
The Prince was suddenly transformed into a wicked beast, stuck that way until the love required to break the spell was found.
The spell was also cast upon the staff of the castle, turning them into furniture. For them, the cost of the spell meant that if the last petal fell, they would turn to solid furniture for ever, losing all personality and humanity they still had left.
The memory of all those in the castle and the castle itself was wiped clean from every person in Alicante, no one remembering what had taken place in that castle or where it even was.
The Prince became reclusive, loosing all hope that the curse would ever be broken.
