Tears streamed like a river and Alec wasn't sure if they'd ever stop. He couldn't see it happening any time soon. Not with the scene before him. Not with Magnus, blood dripping from his wounds, lying in his arms dying. The red was on his hands and his sleeves and his trousers and it felt like it was everywhere. He lay beside Magnus, his Magnus. His Magnus who was dying on the ground, bleeding out to death. Alec stroked his fur and shushed him comfortingly. He ran his fingers up and down his horns as he whispered to him.
"Shhh, Magnus, everything's going to be fine." Alec smiled softly. He knew that it couldn't be that way. Those shots that Maureen had fired and injuries she caused... No way they weren't fatal.
"Alexander... I'm fine." Magnus rubbed Alec's shoulder and smiled. "Please, stop crying."
Alec tasted the salty tears before he even realized what was happening. Magnus raised a shaky paw and wiped them away with so much care. Alec leaned into his palm and started shaking.
"Magnus... Magnus please don't go, you can't go, you can't leave me, not now, not ever!" Alec shook his head and made a choking noise. He suddenly felt that the comforting paw that was once there was gone. He looked down at the beast and watched his final breath puff out, visible in the cold. Then he spun his head round and watched in horror and the final petal snapped off the flower and floated down, landing softly down amoung all of the others.
He thought about everyone else who had lived in the castle with Magnus. Jace had told him right at the beginning of his stay that not only had Magnus been cursed to turn into a beast, but everyone who worked for him had changed too. And they were under the same fate. If the spell wasn't broken in time, they would be stuck in their solid forms for ever, being covered in dust as the time went by. None of them deserved that fate. They had become Alec's friends, even like his family, just for the short time he had stayed at that castle, especially before Magnus had opened up to him. But now... Now they were condemned to a life- well it barely was a life. Just objects, sitting out in the courtyard, even though they had fought hard and valiantly to protect both Alec and Magnus.
Just that made Alec look down at Magnus again and see him in a new light once again. When Alec first arrived, Magnus made out that he had despised his furniture staff. But the way that he had kept them and protected them for all those years... It was clear that what he felt for them was the furthers from hate that it could be. Alec let himself fall down and his head pressed against Magnus' chest.
"I love you Magnus." Alec croaked through the sobs. "I love you so, so much."
He shut his eyes tight. They were stinging and his cheeks were wet with how much he was crying. He couldn't believe that the only person he'd come to love, the person he never knew he'd been searching for was right in front of him, dying in his arms. He was so much so wrapped up in his sorrow that he didn't hear the sharp small footsteps sounding from just behind him.
An lady dressed in gold glided towards the rose in the ornate glass case and waved her hand around, skimming her fingers across the smooth surface. Her hands glowed as magic flowed like satin ribbons from her fingertips and spun round the glass, faster and faster until it smashed int dust and touched the rose. The flower flew into the air, bursting into light that glittered down like stars over Alec and Magnus.
Only then did Alec's head finally snap up and look around, his eyes wide. He watched it surround Magnus' body and carry him into the air. Slowly the fur that covered his body receded as did the claws at his finger tips. His paws and feet shrunk into human hands and feet, his fingernails painted deep black. His skin was tan and his hair was dark, spiked up with magenta tips. He was gorgeous. Alec looked around in awe at what was happening around him. Magnus' suit shrunk to fit his body and he was gently lowered to the floor, wobbling slightly and his feet touched down. Alec rushed forward and held his hands, steadying him so he didn't fall. Magnus coughed roughly, his head bowed forward and shaking slightly.
