Alec winced as the door he was pushing open made an extremely loud creaking noise. He continued on, despite the horrible noise that was most likely echoing through the whole castle. He had no idea what door he was opening, he was just following Izzy's directions. Apparently, he was supposed to be going into a dining room.

"Bit dark for a dining room if you ask me." Alec said to himself.

As he walked further in he felt a breeze blow against his arm. He looked ahead of him and saw a small glimmer of moonlight coming from an opening in the wall. He walked towards it, again cautious of the fact that there was a large beast somewhere in the castle with him. He ducked through the opening and was met with a large balcony. The wind was filled with snowflakes and the wind cut harshly on Alec's skin, the hairs of his arms sticking up as goosebumps formed.

At the centre of the balcony stood at curious object. Alec furrowed his eyebrows and narrowed his eyes as he made his way over to it.

On a small stone pillar, a glass case sat atop it, a glowing red rose standing unsupported, as if by magic, inside.

Alec crouched down so he was level with it and brushed his fingers against the glass lightly. He watched intently as it shone bright suddenly, before a small petal fell and crumpled at the bottom, joining a large group of similar looking ones. The castle shook and small bits of rock and dust showered down onto his hair.

"What is this?" He whispered, more thinking out loud than speaking to anyone.

He tapped a finger on the glass once and the castle shook once more. He saw a petal slightly wobbling, as if threatening that it would fall if he tapped one more time. Alec sharply pulled his hands away. The last thing he wanted to do was make another petal fall. Not after what happened after the first one fell.

He moved away from it quickly and observed it from afar. He saw that there was pictures chiselled into the stone pillar itself. Pictures of a terrifying beast, cowering down in front of a shining angelic looking woman who was floating in the air. A rose was lying at the feet of the beast. Alec reached forward and stroked down the dips and curves in the stones.

"Magnus." He whispered. "And the Enchantress, Catarina. The rose is from her."

Alec felt a harsh stab of pain in his shoulder and he was being pulled away faster that he ever thought he could move. He flew into a wall and winded himself.

"What the hell do you think you're doing here?!"

Magnus was growling down at him, anger burning like fire in his amber eyes. They almost looked as if they were glowing.

"I was looking for the dining room!" Alec said helplessly, cowering away from Magnus as if he could just sink into the wall to get further away.

"Does the look like the dining room?!" Magnus' voice reverberated through Alec's ears and they were ringing before he had even finished his sentence.

"I know, I'm sorry, I was lost and-"

"I don't care! Get out!"

Alec scrambled to his feet and shot away from the beast and right out of the room. He quickly found the staircase to get down to the main entrance hall of the castle.

He must've run past Izzy and Jace at one point, because he was soon hearing, "Alec wait, don't leave!"

He carried on running though. He burst through the doors and ran to the stables. He jumped on Alaric and they were off into the forest in almost no time at all.

Alec wasn't even looking where he was going, he was just clutching onto Alaric's mane and trying not to let tears fall from his eyes. Maybe that's why it was such a shock when Alaric suddenly bucked up and Alec went flying off the back of him.
