"Someone became miss popular over night,"
I looked over my locker door and found Cibil standing with her hands in her jacket pocket, nibbling at her lips while she looked at everything but me. She wouldn't say it out loud but I could tell just by her demeanor and her jokes.
"Yeah, I hate it. All the staring and whispering. It's starting to drive me nuts."
"I wouldn't stress too much about it. babe" Hayden cut in, "They'll have something else to be talking about by lunch time."
I sighed. I knew he was right but if I looked passed Cibil and down at the other end of the hallway where Hayden's friends were at I would see them whispering and staring at us. I knew they were waiting for the moment where Hayden and me went our separate ways and they could drill him on what happened. What they didn't realize, however, is that Hayden wouldn't be leaving my side any time soon. He felt to guilty.
"Cam,"
I pulled my attention back to Cibil who was starting to get shuffle from foot to foot, "What?,"
"I asked you a question," She bit back, making me take a startled step back.
"I'm sorry.I didn't hear you,"
"I noticed,"
"Lay off, Cibil," Hayden whispered,
"Says the guy who was too drunk to drive his own girlfriend home,"
"Cibil!," I shrieked through clenched teeth.
Haydens' jaw clenched and he shifted his backpack higher on his shoulder. The veins on his hands were beginning to show from how tight he was holding onto his backpack.
I slammed my locker door shut and faced Cibil, Who's head was hanging down and was more interested in her shoes than this conversation.
"What?," I asked, about to lose my patients with both my best friend and my boyfriend.
"Why didn't you tell me?," She mumbled,
"Tell you what?"
"Cam, I know."
I didn't even reply to her comment but instead just raised my eyebrows.
Finally, she looked up and said, "About the stalker,"
It felt like a cold bucket of ice water had just been poured on me. Here I thought people were just talking about the accident. Now I realized they were talking about much more than that. I looked around the hallway. How did they find out? It couldn't have been the cop, that information was confidential. I quickly stole a glance at Hayden. He wouldn't do that, would he?
"Stalker? What are you talking about Cibil?" I asked, my eyes still roaming around the hallway looking for anyone who could possibly already know,"
"Stalker?," Hayden asked, his voice full of worry, "I thought you said it was just a prank?,"
Okay, so maybe it wasn't Hayden.
Cibil completely ignored Hayden and kept pushing, "Cut the crap, Camilla. I know it's not a joke anymore,"
"I don't know what you're talking about, Cibil."
"Cam, seriously,"
I turned my attention back towards Cibil, "There's no stalker Cibil. Promise. It's just someone playing a stupid joke,"
Cibil just sighed and shook her head, "Fine don't tell me. I'm just you're best friend and all,"
A sliver of guilt washed over me and I had to hold back the urge to just tell her everything. But I couldn't do that. I still hadn't told Hayden about Joel and he didn't need to find out before school. I wasn't even for sure I was going to tell him. Hayden had already been through so much. What if I was wrong?
