"Are you guys you're doing ok?,"
"Oh my god," I groaned, throwing my pencil down on my books and gritting my teeth together.
"Yes, mom. We are ok,"
"Are you sure? You guys don't need anything to drink or eat? Because I can make you something real fast,"
"No, Mom."
Mom sighed, "Ok, holler if you need anything,"
"Oh I'm sure you'll be there," I muttered under my breath.
Mom waited around a few more seconds before she decided that we were going to be ok for another five minutes then headed up stairs to the nursery to check on Henry.
"She's just worried, you know,"
I glanced up from my books at Hayden who was doing anything and everything to avoid looking in my general direction. It's been four days into my lockdown and I was ready to fall to the floor and throw one of Henry's tantrums.
"Would you stop glaring at me," Hayden said after a few minutes of my heavy stare on him.
"Then you both need to quit acting like I'm about to fall over dead any second. It's starting to drive me nuts. I can't breathe, Hayden,"
Hayden sighed, running his hands over his face. The dark circles under his eyes were getting worse and they were starting to look bloodshot. "Can we not have this fight again?," He asked,
I shook my head and looked back down at my books and begin my third attempt to finish my homework, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Whatever, Cam,"
The pregnant silence between us stretched on and the sounds of the pencils scratching the paper were starting to bother me. I moved my neck around in circles hoping it would release some of my build up tension. It didn't.
"I just wish you guys wouldn't watch my every move," I threw in, making Hayden sigh and once again abandon his homework.
"Cam....,"
"I mean, one of you guys is always there. You, my mom. You even have Cibil freaked out and starting to act like another body guard....,"
"Will you stop being a brat for two seconds and see it from our perspective," Hayden snapped, stopping me short from continuing what I was going to say.
Hayden's hand rung back and forth and I knew if he was at home he would be running to his father's office right now. "It's been four days, Cam. Four days. We could have lost you that night and it would have been my fault,"
"Hayden," I breathed out, but he didn't hear me. His stare was elsewhere and I was beginning to question if he even knew what he was saying by this point.
"I've already lost my little brother, Camilla. I don't know if I could handle losing you too,"
I hastily wiped away the single tear that fell from my face before Hayden could see it. I grabbed ahold to the one hand that was sitting on the table and he slowly relaxed. I smiled softly at him, waiting for him to fully come back to me before I continued.
"I promise, I'm fine. I'm going to be fine," I stressed.
He stared at me for a good while before telling me, "I would believe you, if you didn't almost die the other night from some freak standing in the middle of the road,"
I looked away from him and out the window towards the woods. I wasn't ready to face the truth of what happened that night with him. Cibil and him could theorize all they want. I wasn't budging.
