I gasped for his breath as the dust swirled around me. I listened for any noise from anyone, friend or foe. I needed some confirmation from the state of the battle. We had been winning our fight with Gaea until she started muttering in Ancient Greek. Then I had blacked out only to come to in the middle of a dust cloud.
As the dust cleared, I braced myself for a fight and kept an eye out for Gaea, only she was nowhere in sight, probably thanks to Leo's fire. I could only hope that she was gone for good and that the future generations wouldn't have to worry about a third war.
"Percy, where are you, are you okay?" I whipped my head around in the direction of Jason's voice.
"Jason? What happened, did we win?"
Slowly Jason came into view, it was clear that controlling the wind to hold a primordial goddess in the air against her will had exhausted him, his movements were sluggish and his hair nearly dripped with sweat.
"Yeah, we did it, we won. She's gone for good, but I was just wondering if you knew-" Jason paused when he made eye contact with me. "Dude, what happened? You look so-- you really don't look like yourself, are you feeling alright?"
"Am I fine?" I scoffed. Like he was one to talk. I felt really great, on the other hand, he looked like he hadn't bathed in weeks and Leo'd just set him on fire. "You shouldn't be asking that question when you look like that."
"I'm being serious though, you look--feminine."
"Are you sure your okay, Jason? Come one, we should get you to the Apollo Cabin."
"I'm fine, Percy, but I'm telling the truth, you look like a thirteen-year-old girl."
I took a moment to look down at my body, expecting to be completely fine and find proof that Jason was crazy, but he really wasn't. My body was not as I expected, or remembered it to be. My waist was narrower than before and my hips had grown out, but the thing that worried me the most was my new chest which had grown is the way most younger girls' chests did. It was totally weird.
"What the heck? Why am I a girl?" I yelped. It was fairly clear that who I used to be was no longer in the picture.
"I don't know, man, but we should get you to Chiron, he might know what to do."
"No duh, it was bad enough I was back to being a twelve-year-old, but now that I'm a girl? I don't even want to think about how everything is not going well for me," I exasperated as we weaved between the crowds of Greek and Roman demigods with the intention of meeting with Chiron. Surprisingly, he wasn't as hard to find in the aftermath of a battle as they had suspected.
"Chiron, we need to-" I was cut off.
"Yes, Percy, I am aware of your situation. Our good friend Mr. D bore witness to the curse and cared enough to enlighten me. As much as this predicament is rather sudden, I am afraid there is more urgent news. The gods have summoned you to Olympus, you need to get there as soon as possible."
"But I want to know why I am like this," I demanded.
Chiron looked at me with a deep stare, as if contemplating which answer would hurt me the least. When he spoke, it was exactly as I had feared.
"I am afraid that Gaea had placed you under a deep curse, young lad--er--lass. One that flipped your physical body to its opposite. She likely had meant it to tear you into pieces, so you should consider yourself lucky to even be alive."
"You can switch me back right?"
"I cannot. However, there is a chance that one of the Olympians may have an answer for you."
