Chapter 14

We have gym class and the teacher makes us play basketball. My head isn't in the game. I play like shit and my teammates are all mad at me for letting Zino steal points.

Zino

Mateo is really out of it. My team is leading with 22 points. We win easily, as we're going back to the locker room, I see Cora rush down the steps at the bleachers. Thinking she's coming to congratulate me on the win.

Cora

Gym class is the first time I get to see Mateo after I received his gift. I decide to rush down the steps at the end of class to catch him.

He looks at me with reservation but I don't care, I reach for his hand and he laces his fingers between mine. We just stand there looking into each other's eyes.

"I'm so sorry. I should have told you..." he starts.

I step into his space, letting my other hand find its way round the back of his neck and make contact with his lips. Mateo relaxes and pulls me closer, deepening the kiss with such intensity that I know this is real for him. When we finally come up for air, the whole student body is looking at us and Mateo leans in and whispers into my ear.

"Let me take you out on a date.... as your boyfriend."

I smile at him and then kiss him again in reply.
